With the development of the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Sora from Kingdom Hearts, has been celebrated by many fans for his inclusion.

In 2020, Masahiro Sakurai mentioned he doesn't post about games he plays. Sakurai explained he wanted to avoid speculation on who would be the next unveiled fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, seeing as talking about certain games would lead to fan speculation. This was the basis for several characters theorized to get into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Now that Smash Bros. fighter for the foreseeable future, Sakurai can use Twitter to post about other topics.

With this newfound freedom, Sakurai posted a picture on Twitter featuring a Crewmate (or Imposter) from Among Us. The picture shows a cat staring at a tiny figurine of the Crewmate, and the tweet's translation states that - with the development of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate finished - he doesn't have to worry about casually posting a picture referencing other games. Sakurai explained (using Twitter's translator), "With the development of 'Smash Bros.' finished, [I] no longer have to worry about suspicion of participating in the war. Now, even if [I] put out such a picture, there is no problem!"

Since the indie game reached great heights in popularity over the past few years, fans have requested Sakurai consider including a Crewmate or Impostor from Among Us in the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster. If Sans from Undertale could get in as a Mii Costume, then Among Us fighters or Mii costumes didn't appear to be out of the question. Masahiro Sakurai also talked about Among Us in the past, stating that Among Us reminded him of a card game due to the human interaction integrated into the experience, but was unsure if the popularity of the game would last.

The development of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has now come to a close, and for better or worse, Among Us didn't make it into Super Smash Bros. But Sakurai can now take solace in the fact that he can post pictures like this on social media without having to worry about speculation that it's a sign of an fighter. Speculation for fighters as a whole will have to be reserved for a future Super Smash Bros. game, if there is one to come after Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The future of Super Smash Bros. is still in the air after the latest installment, but for the time being, director Masahiro Sakurai can take a break from having to worry about his social media presence.
