Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Prior to the showcase, fans had speculated wildly about which character would fill one of two remaining spots for the fighting game, setting high expectations for the fighter's reveal.
Tekken's Kazuya smashed open Nintendo Direct with a beautifully animated sequence of him fighting various Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fighters, then throwing them off a cliff in victory. Though much of Kazuya's fighting style, stage design, and music selection coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is still unclear, more will be revealed at the Mr. Sakurai Presents: Kazuya.
As another title in the fighting game genre, adding a Tekken character is a logical choice for the team at Nintendo. However, Kazuya's announcement ultimately fell short amid speculations of Master Chief, Crash Bandicoot, Sonic, or even Tom Nook. Any number of characters would make a strong addition to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but here's a list of the top five.
Super Smash Bros. Additions to Follow Kazuya
Master Chief from the Halo series was the favorite theorized character going into Nintendo Direct, with good reason. Halo Infinite's impending release has caused a resurgence in popularity for the franchise. Additionally, Master Chief has been making appearances in other metaverse-style games, such as Fortnite, making Master Chief in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate a natural extension of that. Crash Bandicoot, another popular character theory prior to Nintendo Direct, would also be a strong selection, with his wacky play style and animations offering fun possibilities in the Super Smash Bros. universe.
Moving outside of highly speculated characters, Zagreus, the protagonist in Hades, would be a perfect addition to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. He has a wide variety of attacks and weapons that would make playing him in a brawl fun and effective. It would also be fun to expand Super Smash Bros. Ultimate to the MOBA universe, making League of Legends' Dr. Mundo a strong addition to the roster. This crossover would open a world of possibilities for future League of Legends champions to later Super Smash Bros. DLCs or installments.
In the same promotional vein as Master Chief, with Square Enix's announcement of Marvel's The Guardians of the Galaxy, Star Lord would be an excellent addition to the fray as well, although his gameplay options in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate could prove to be a spoiler for a game not yet released.
