There was a sense of Fire Emblem: Three House's Byleth was confirmed as the final combatant of the first Fighters . A number of Smash fans are hoping to see some of gaming's biggest icons make the crossover into Ultimate, and it turns out that Mortal Kombat co-creator/creative director Ed Boon has his own hopes as well. Speaking with ShackNews during the DICE Awards, Boon was asked about how he'd feel if the likes of Scorpion or Sub-Zero were added to Smash Ultimate. While unable to speak to the opinion of Warner Bros. Interactive, Boon did state that seeing such a crossover would be validating – referencing the act as a "stamp of approval" for Mortal Kombat.

"For me personally (I can’t speak for all of Warner Bros or anything), that would be kind of like a stamp of approval. It’d be like being part of the gang and all that stuff. I would love to see that."

There are a number of discussions that presumably go into including a character in Smash Bros. Generally speaking, Mortal Kombat has more than earned a spot on the Smash roster alongside the latest title's growing pantheon of playable gaming idols. The only thing that may hold a character from the series back is the fact that MK is a notoriously violent game, but even that hasn't stopped M-rated characters like Bayonetta from ing the fray in the past.

With other official Halo Twitter teasing Master Chief's inclusion in Smash, however, it's safe to say that nothing is impossible.
