Today, French developer and publisher Microids announced that four games based on XIII remake and the Syberia series.
In 2019, the French company served as publisher for Pendulo Studios' Blacksad: Under the Skin - an adaptation of the celebrated Spanish comic series Blacksad. The Smurfs IP counts as one license Microids hasn't previously explored, though. And, interestingly, The Smurfs' last foray into the gaming space launched in 2015 in the form of the Xbox 360, serving as the franchise's last venture on home consoles. That much is expected to change by year's end.
While the Smurfs are taking a break from their big screen adventures, Microids is hard at work on reintroducing the blue humanoid creatures to the interactive medium. The developer/publisher announced as much today in a brief Twitter post, divulging that four Smurfs titles will launch over the course of the next five years. The Smurfs - Mission Vileaf serves as one such adaptation, which is scheduled to release at the end of 2021 on Nintendo Switch, PC PlayStation 4, and Xbox One platforms. Microids' post doesn't specify whether or not it will act as the developer, publisher, or both. And details about Mission Vileaf are basically nonexistent, though a piece of concept did accompany the aforementioned tweet.
The above concept art boasts somewhat of a Ori and the Blind Forest vibe. With that in mind, Mission Vileaf could very well be any number of things. A 2D platformer doesn't sound half bad, but fans would do well to keep their expectations in check until Microids is ready to share more.
Mission Vileaf now counts as one of the handful of titles confirmed to launch in the back half of 2021. The likes of Horizon: Forbidden West.
The Smurfs - Mission Vileaf will launch on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One on an unspecified date later in the year.
