Saturday Night Live skit has been around since the late-night live comedy variety show's first episode in 1975, with Chevy Chase as the first cast member behind the desk. Now, almost 50 years later, Jost and Che are the faces of Weekend Update, and one of their best segments is their joke swap.

Saturday Night Live season 50 returns in 2025, with its three-hour celebratory 50th anniversary special set to air on February 16.

Jost and Che always write jokes for the other to tell during the last Saturday Night Live episode before the new year. It has become a tradition that many fans look forward to. The two comedians never hold back, often giving each other crude, racist, sexist jokes that they have to tell during Weekend Update. Jost and Che's annual skit has resulted in many memorable moments over the years. However, Saturday Night Live season 50's joke swap is undoubtedly the best, thanks to one unfortunate cameo.

SNL 50's Holiday Weekend Update Joke Swap Tradition Features Scarlet Johansson

Johansson Makes A Cameo During SNL's Last Episode Of 2024

During the Weekend Update annual joke swap in Saturday Night Live season 50, episode 10, Michael Che gave his co-host a joke about Scarlett Johansson. For those who don't know, Colin Jost and Johansson are married in real life. So, forcing Jost to tell a crude joke about his wife is sinister and hilarious in and of itself. However, what made it worse (aka so much better) was that Johansson watched it all happen. Jost said, "I want to dedicate this next joke to my boo, Scarlett Johansson," before the cameras cut to the actress backstage and the audience burst into laughter. The rest of Jost's joke was:

"Y'all know Scarlett just celebrated her 40th birthday, which means I'm about to get up out of there ... Nah, nah. I'm just playin'. We just had a kid together, and y'all ain't see no pictures of him yet cause he black as hell."

Johansson just smiled, shook her head, and said, "Oh, sh*t," after the bit was over. The actress' reaction combined with Che's written lines for Jost instantly made it one of the best joke swaps ever in the history of Saturday Night Live. It was a fantastic way to say goodbye to the Weekend Update hosts until 2025, and will not be forgotten anytime soon.

Why Scarlet Johansson Makes Jost & Che's Joke Swap More Hilarious

Che Has A History Of Writing Jokes About Johansson For Jost

Saturday Night Live season 50's joke swap is even more perfect when taking into that it isn't the first time Scarlett Johansson has been targeted during the segment. Previous installments of the fan-favorite annual skit featured Che writing jokes about Scarlett Johansson. For example, one of Jost's jokes during season 46's Weekend Update segment revolved around Johansson playing Sammy Davis Jr. in an biopic about Frank Sinatra. So, it was only a matter of time before Johansson made an appearance. Her Saturday Night Live cameo certainly sent the joke over the top, making it one of the show's best.
