A new trailer for Sonic Frontiers was just released, and it could be a sign that Sonic and his friends are in serious danger. The story of the game has yet to be revealed, but the trailer is hinting at potentially one of Sonic's most ominous adventures yet. The latest trailer left a lot of questions, and Sonic Frontiers may end up with some interesting answers.

Initially revealed in May 2021, Sonic Frontiers is the next game in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, following 2017's divisive Sonic Forces. The first real look at the game consisted of a gameplay demo featuring Sonic running around a rather barren landscape. Although this display received some criticism because Sonic Frontiers looked rather empty, later revelations about the game would put those concerns to rest as it began to take shape. The recent story trailer is the biggest piece of information to be revealed so far, and it could point to some serious consequences for Sonic and friends.

In the trailer, Sonic interacts with some strange relics while a floating figure offers cryptic warnings. They claim that Sonic is a danger to the world, but do not offer any other details as Sonic rebuffs them. However, the most attention-grabbing part of the trailer comes when Sonic comes across a strange spherical device. Inside the sphere is Amy, or at least what appears to be her, flickering like a hologram. However, Sonic is unable to properly investigate before a squad of strange geometric-looking monsters show up, forcing Sonic into a fight while showcasing how different Sonic Frontiers looks from past games.

Sonic Frontiers Is Looking Like Sonic's Eeriest Adventure

This scene in particular poses plenty of questions. Was it truly Amy in that sphere, and if so, why is she there? This adventure seems to be taking place in a new world compared to previous Sonic games, so it is also worth asking how Amy got there in the first place. In addition, if Amy has been captured, then it's possible that some of Sonic's other friends have encountered a similar fate. There could be other spheres in the world containing Tails, Knuckles, or any number of Sonic's allies. The fact that this is completely unexplained only raises more questions. Although it's already confirmed that Big the Cat will be in Sonic Frontiers, there's no telling how many of Sonic's other friends will be present, or if they'll be in states similar to Amy's.

The biggest mystery of all may be whoever the floating person is that addresses Sonic. They refer to him as a threat, but don't explain why. In addition, they have a red, gridlike glow similar to the one on the sphere containing Amy, and a similar glow appears on Sonic's arm at one point and appears to cause him pain. Whoever this is, they are definitely associated with whatever is going on, and they also seem to be controlling the odd monsters that Sonic fights in the trailer as well. Although it is likely too early to assume they are the primary antagonist, especially with discussions of Eggman's role in Sonic Frontiers, it is clear that they will play a significant role.

Sonic Frontiers' new trailer has raised plenty of questions and given fans plenty of reason to take notice. If the mood of the trailer was any indication, it may be on track to be Sonic's most mysterious, ominous adventure yet. Sonic Frontiers is looking more interesting than ever, and Sonic and his friends may be in the most danger yet.
