Netflix's Space Force is already becoming a fan-favorite show and has gathered a fanbase so rapidly, that many franchises have failed to do so in decades. Netflix is considering renewing Space Force for a second season, after ending the first one on a major cliffhanger. Fans especially love it for its star-studded cast, with a lot of familiar faces.
But, as all things come and go, there have been many great shows in the genre of comedy, that may excite you just as Space Force did, here are 10 shows for you to watch if you liked Steve Carell's, Space Force.
The Office (2005-2013)
This list would be incomplete without the iconic Steve Carell show, The Office, a spoof comedy series in an (you guessed it) office setting. Also starring Jon Krasinski as Jim Halpert, this series provided some of the most iconic lines, in modern-day comedy
Known for popularizing the popular joke phrase "That's what she said" among many other things, this series is a must-watch for all fans of Space Force. Not to mention, they were both created by the same man: Greg Daniels.
The Big Bang Theory (2007-2019)
It would be a crime to leave the longest-running sitcom in the history of modern-day television out of this list. Giving actors like Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki the roles they are been now defined by, the show follows a group of scientists, considered losers in the past to navigate common life problems, where sometimes science doesn't come in too handy.
A must-watch for Space Force fans, HBO Max as a surprise, now would be a good time to subscribe.
Parks & Recreation (2009-2015)
Another Greg Daniels masterpiece, set in a very The Office type of fashion, Parks and Rec (as it is known as more commonly) follows the satirical tradition of goofing off in a work environment - a theme seen commonly in Greg Daniels's creations.
Starring big names like Marvel's Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) and Amy Poehler, they navigate the problems with a city named Pawnee all the while going through the problems that come with life and their job at the eponymous Parks and Recreation Department. With romantic confusions, hilarious confrontations, and wonderful comedy, its winning Emmys and Golden Globes for its comedy and actors come as no surprise.
Friends (1994-2004)
Arguably the most iconic sitcom of the '90s and the early 2000's, Friends' inclusion here is a no-brainer. It shows a group of six friends, navigating everyday life and the problems that come with it, in the most hilarious fashion, making a major impact on the '90s culture, as a whole.
It gained popularity for the way the characters dressed, which became the "fashion" of that time. Despite some of its jokes not aging well, the overall feel and themes of Friends are still relevant today. But perhaps the show's biggest impact was how it turned everyone in the main cast - especially Jennifer Aniston - into some of the biggest names in Hollywood.
The Comeback (2005-2014)
Starring Friends' alumni Lisa Kudrow, who conveniently also stars in Space Force, The Comeback was a popular show in the mid 2000's. Fresh of the success of Friends, Kurdow was able to gain success again with The Comeback.
Giving a comedic insight into the entertainment industry, this show has it all: the cast, the story, and most definitely the comedy. It is hard to see a reason for one to not watch it. Rumors are circulating regarding a third season but before that bit of news is confirmed or denied, there's no better time than now to revisit this hit from nearly two decades ago.
King Of The Hill (1997-2010)
Before Space Force, Greg Daniels actually served as a co-creator to Mike Judge on this animated masterpiece. King Of The Hill is set in Texas with a propane salesman Hank Hill, and his family of his substitute teacher wife, wannabe comedian son, and deadbeat niece. Hank is a simple man, just with rather stereotypical views about religion, God, and faith.
As expected of a Daniels creation, King of the Hill gave its audience exceptional humor. King of the Hill ruled the airwaves during the late '90s to the early 2000's; years which fans wish they could have back.
After Life (2019- )
Tony (portrayed by comedic legend Ricky Gervais) had a perfect life before his wife suddenly died of breast cancer in this dark, British comedy. Now realizing he must navigate life on his own, the thought terrifies him and he sets out to do whatever he wants and say whatever he wants as a way of punishing the world for his wife's death.
Thinking of it as a "superpower" more than a "curse," this provides extremely funny moments. It should be noted that After Life is best suited for mature audiences and is available on Netflix, so what are you waiting for? Go watch it.
Arrested Development (2003-2019)
Arrested Development was one of the most popular shows in the early to mid-2000's, gaining tremendous fame after it aired on Fox. Narrated by Ron Howard, it showed a dysfunctional family who were formerly quite wealthy, trying to adjust to their new lifestyle. A hilariously hard transition from a life of wealth to mediocrity, and truly a trip from rags to riches.
It received critical acclaim, winning six primetime Emmys and even a Golden Globe, thus it has everything. The only negative point about this show is that it ended, much to the sadness of its cult following. Those who liked Space Force because of its comedy will enjoy Arrested Development.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine (2013- )
Brooklyn Nine-Nine is undoubtedly one of the most famous modern-day sitcoms. It follows the everyday life and work of the the 99th Precinct led by Captian Holt, and the relationship with Jake and Amy the stars of the show. Jake, alongside his partner, Charles takes on difficult cases, solving them under the mentorship of his captain.
All while their sergeant guides them along the way, with Rosa's twisted stories going another direction. As it continues to get much critical acclaim, especially with Andy Samberg leading the show, this one is a must-watch for all comedy fans.
It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia (2005- )
And to end with a bang, what else is there but It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia? The irreverent show has amassed a huge following after fourteen seasons, having just been renewed for its fifteenth. Considered one of the greatest sitcoms ever made, this show follows a group of five selfish underachievers who grow to be even more hilariously selfish.
This causes them to disunite and start plotting against each other, which always has some hilarious result. While it's not necessarily Space Force, this show possesses the same comedic aura found wonderfully in the former.
