Now, in an interview with IGN, McFarlane responded to the question of whether or not he wants another Spawn video game with an emphatic "Sure, I do!" However, McFarlane has noted how he has "intentionally been holding back in certain categories" until there's a launch that he considers to be big and meaningful enough. To do this, McFarlane stated it needed to be tied to either a movie or TV reboot to break out of the "comic book bubble" and get more "global" with the brand, citing Robert Kirkman's The Walking Dead as an example of a comic that saw a huge increase in brand recognition with the launch of AMC's TV series.
McFarlane went on to explain that once the King Spawn movie is settled - which he hopes will be in the next few months - there will be a product line covering other areas, such as video games, as it will be easier to sell to fans who have been around forever, and then the newer audiences who are just discovering the character.

Mortal Kombat 11: Spawn Fatalities & Brutalities Guide
Mortal Kombat 11 added Spawn to the game in the form of DLC. Here's a guide to his fatalities and brutalities special moves in the game.
It's Been Nearly Two Decades Since The Last Spawn Game
Although The Character Has Since Appeared In Mortal Kombat
This wouldn't be Spawn's first foray into the world of gaming, as the character had several games in the '90s and early 2000s across various platforms. This ranged from the SNES' Todd McFarlane's Spawn: The Video Game in 1995, which featured side-scrolling beat 'em up gameplay and saw Spawn trying to save the lives of thirteen children from The Mad One, including his own stepdaughter, through to the 3D action-adventure hack and slash title Spawn: Armageddon on the PlayStation 2, Xbox and Nintendo GameCube in 2003, which was inspired by the first 99 issues of the comics.
Therefore, with nearly 21 years having ed since the release of Spawn: Armageddon, McFarlane's tactic of waiting until a movie brings the character more into the mainstream spotlight again could be the wise choice. There's no doubt that Spawn is an incredibly popular character - and he was recently featured as a Mortal Kombat 11 in 2020 to high praise - but an entire generation has reached adulthood in the time since the last Spawn game was released, and it's been even longer since the last movie in 1997 and the release of HBO's popular animated series, which ran between 1997 and 1999, so the new King Spawn movie could be what the series needs to reach a larger, modern audience.
A new Spawn movie has been in the works for quite some time now, and Blumhouse took the reins seven years ago, with many deeming the project as being in development hell. Still, McFarlane seems optimistic about this latest iteration and has stated that the release of more R-rated fare such as the Joker or Deadpool movies in recent years has made Hollywood more receptive to R-rated comic book movies, so hopefully, King Spawn will be successful, and the franchise will see a boom once again.
