Summary

  • Keanu Reeves' return to John Wick franchise is exciting, but a Speed 3 sequel with Sandra Bullock could be even better.
  • Reeves' success in 80s comedy and later as an action star sets the stage for a fresh Speed installment.
  • The chemistry between Reeves and Bullock shouldn't be wasted; a Speed 3 film could be a hit with their star power.

John Wick: Chapter 5 may seem like the most obvious pick for another Keanu Reeves comeback, but the actor's potential return to this 30-year-old franchise is way more exciting. Although Keanu Reeves has always been a big actor, the John Wick franchise has turned him into a modern day A-list star, with these films adding to the list of massive franchises that the beloved performer has appeared in. Thus, it would make sense for fans to be eager for a fifth John Wick movie to be released, although Keanu Reeves next project should be something else entirely.

Keanu Reeves first made a huge splash by appearing in the 1980s Bill & Ted comedies, with these films being what really allowed the actor's career to take off. Reeves then attempted to rebrand himself as a more serious actor, appearing in movies like Point Break, Bram Stoker's Dracula, and The Matrix. While Reeves was still a huge star throughout the 1990s, his popularity waned a bit in the 2000s. Luckily, 2014's John Wick was able to launch Reeves back into the spotlight, and this former Keanu Reeves franchise should return to the spotlight as well.

Keanu Reeves & Sandra Bullock Are Both Eager To Do Speed 3

Will The Movie Happen?

Instead of John Wick: Chapter 5, Keanu Reeves' next big franchise film should bring back a series from his past: Speed. The Speed franchises follows Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock as they are trapped in moving vehicles that will detonate if they drop below a certain speed, with the high-octane action thrillers being a fun entry in the actors' filmographies. While Speed did get a sequel in 1997 with Speed 2: Cruise Control, the franchise has been dormant since then. However, this may not be the case for much longer.

As it turns out, Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock are both eager to do Speed 3, even now 30 years after the original film's release. Reeves and Bullock described their interest in working together on a film again, with Reeves then addressing the possibility of Speed 3 by saying that "We’d freakin’ knock it out of the park." Although no official word on Speed 3 has been given yet, Reeves and Bullock's interest in reviving the franchise could go a long way in bringing the franchise back, with both starts now being more marketable than ever.

Speed 3 Is More Exciting Than Another Matrix Or John Wick Movie

It'll Be More Fresh

Although it may sound surprising, Speed 3 is more exciting than another The Matrix or John Wick movie, which is why Keanu Reeves should really go for the sequel. Although the Speed franchise has already had two movies, Speed 2: Cruise Control is notoriously bad, meaning that only one good film in the franchise exists. Because of this, there is still plenty of room to grow the world of Speed, with the simply concept meaning that it can be transferred to all kinds of other vehicles.

The Matrix and John Wick, meanwhile, both consist of four mainline films that star Keanu Reeves, meaning that they have been a bit overdone. While these franchises are great, a fifth The Matrix or John Wick film wouldn't feel nearly as fresh as a third Speed film, especially considering how long it has been since Speed 2: Cruise Control was released. While the Speed franchise may not be as popular as the aforementioned movie series, the time gap between films would allow Speed 3 to have an incredibly creative story, potentially making it better than it was before.

Reeves & Bullock's Chemistry Together Shouldn't Be Wasted

They Want To Work Together Again

One of the best parts of the Speed movies is the chemistry between Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock, and this really shouldn't be wasted. These two actors are what made the first Speed films successful, and they absolutely would not have been the same without these casting choices.

If Reeves and Bullock are eager to work together again, it wouldn't make sense to stop them, especially since they are now two of the biggest actors in Hollywood. Another duo movie with Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock could be a hit even if it was an original franchise, and the Speed name only makes this idea stronger. Although the actor probably has other projects to sort through first, one of the best movies that Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves could pick next is a third Speed film.
