Unfortunately, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’s box office, which almost doubled the first movie’s box office. Naturally, expectations are quite high for the third installment, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse was originally slated to release in late 2024, but the film was delayed soon after its first release date was announced. As of early 2025, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse doesn’t have a release date yet, though a late 2026 or an early 2027 release sounds possible, as Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is in production. Still, a five-year wait between Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and the ten-year wait between the trilogy’s first and third installments is quite a long time for Miles Morales’ story to be told in cinemas.

The Spider-Verse Has Been Amazing - But It's Made 1 Spider-Man Story Even More Impossible For Miles Morales On-Screen

Miles Morales' Street-Level Stories May Take A While To Hit The Big Screen

The Spider-Verse movies’ approach to the multiverse has been groundbreaking, and their animation has been so popular that it has inspired many other projects’ visual style. The Spider-Verse trilogy’s strengths are now synonymous with Miles Morales, who became the central anomaly of a Spider-Verse that connects to the wider Marvel multiverse, including the MCU’s known timelines. However, Miles Morales’ street-level stories have taken a backseat as a result, and it may take a while for Marvel to adapt them to the big screen.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse offers a story potentially as big in scope as the MCU’s Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars

In 2026 or 2027 at the earliest, Miles Morales will face his biggest multiversal challenge to date. As teased by Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse's cliffhanger ending, Earth-1610’s Miles has to escape from Earth-42’s Miles and reunite with the Spider-Society’s defectors before it’s too late to stop the rampaging Spot. Add a vengeful Spider-Man 2099 to the mix, and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse offers a story potentially as big in scope as the MCU’s Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars around the same time Phase 6’s final team-up movies come out.

It's Essentially Impossible For Us To Get A Street-Level Miles Morales Spider-Man Story Before Beyond The Spider-Verse Releases

Sony Needs To Finish The Spider-Verse Trilogy Before Moving On To New Miles Morales Stories

Miles Morales’ few street-level fights in the Spider-Verse trilogy show how well a fully grounded Miles movie would work, both in animation and live-action. Unfortunately, if Sony wanted to continue Miles’ story after his multiversal conflict ends, a street-level Spider-Verse sequel would have to wait around ten years, if the previous movies’ production is anything to go by. The studio and the filmmakers could also wait a little longer in order to make it clear that the Spider-Verse trilogy’s multiversal plot has concluded.

It's still unknown when Miles Morales might debut in the MCU, but Kevin Feige's comments now tie the date to Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.

A different version of Miles Morales could be introduced in the MCU in the meantime. While the Spider-Verse’s animated Miles stars in a multiversal trilogy, the MCU’s live-action Miles Morales could star in his own series of street-level movies, which would also contrast with Peter Parker’s larger-than-life battles alongside the Avengers and his multiversal variants. However, the MCU is deep into the Multiverse Saga, and the earliest a grounded Miles-centered live-action MCU movie could release would probably be after 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars.

Sony’s animated Spider-Verse trilogy will probably end with a conclusive third installment. Shameik Moore’s Miles Morales and his friends could continue their journey in a future movie sequel or their own animated spin-offs, or they could simply resume their adventures in their respective universes off-screen. Regardless, the Spider-Verse movies already proved Miles’ potential as a Marvel movie protagonist, which could help him make his live-action debut sooner.

Miles Morales was introduced in Marvel Comics' Earth-1610, and he was later transported to the main timeline, Earth-616.

Though it may take a while, Miles could easily be the next big-screen Spider-Man for a new generation. Instead of a fourth live-action movie Peter Parker after a possible MCU reboot, Miles Morales could star in one or more MCU film trilogies that capture the character’s qualities from the Spider-Verse movies. Miles’ popularity in the animated films is the clearest indicator that he could be the MCU’s next star, and both Sony and Marvel could benefit greatly from his jump from animation to live action on the big screen.
