MCU's next Spider-Man movie. The cast confirmed to return includes Tom Holland as Peter Parker, while Zendaya's MJ will reportedly play a minor role this time around, which would be fitting.
After all, Spider-Man: Brand New Day's story rumors have been flying around over the past year, ranging from a Daredevil team-up to Black Cat's MCU debut to symbiotes and Venom to the Spider-Men returning in a multiversal film to more. After the latest update to the MCU's movie slate, I believe one direction for the Spider-Man movie has become more likely.
Marvel Has Delayed The MCU’s Next Two Avengers Movies & Made Schedule Changes
The MCU's Biggest Events Now Take Longer To Arrive
While Thunderbolts* ended up being an Avengers movie in disguise, transforming the team led by Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova into the MCU's New Avengers, a proper film based on Earth's Mightiest Heroes has not been released since 2019's Avengers: Endgame. That is why I am so excited for Avengers: Doomsday to change that in 2026, with the debut of Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom, Fox's original X-Men entering the action, and many MCU heroes coming together.
However, fans will have to wait longer for that ambitious film, as Marvel has delayed Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Avengers: Doomsday has moved from May 1, 2026, to December 18, 2026, while Avengers: Secret Wars follows a similar pattern, going from May 7, 2027, to December 17, 2027. The studio also removed a February 2026 date for an "Untitled Marvel" movie while transforming the November 6, 2026, and November 5, 2027, dates for MCU releases into "Untitled Disney" movies. Besides giving more time to get the Avengers movies right, the delays can heavily impact Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day Now Releases Before Avengers: Doomsday
A Multiverse-Focused Spider-Man Movie Now Makes Less Sense
In the MCU's original release order, Tom Holland's next Spider-Man movie would have served as a bridge between the next two Avengers films in the franchise's slate. However, now that Marvel has delayed the next two Avengers movies, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to arrive in theaters before Avengers: Doomsday, with the Sony/Marvel movie keeping its July 31, 2026, release date for the moment. That got me thinking about how Marvel can do what a lot of fans want.

Tom Holland’s 4-Year-Old Comments About The Spider-Man MCU Team-Up He Wants To See Make His Avengers: Doomsday Absence More Frustrating
The MCU Spider-Man team-up Tom Holland wants would have been perfect for Avengers: Doomsday, and Peter Parker's absence is incredibly frustrating.
Spider-Man: No Way Home was a massive event that brought together Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland's versions of Spider-Man. The actors had brilliant chemistry, and I hope the MCU uses that again in the future. However, Spider-Man: No Way Home had set up the perfect street-level continuation of the story of the MCU's Peter Parker, with the hero stripped back down to the basics, and I feel like a sprawling multiversal story for Spider-Man: Brand New Day would have gone against that.
How The MCU Can Have The Street-Level Spider-Man Movie That No Way Home Set Up
Tom Holland's Peter Parker Has To Be Built Up Again
When Spider-Man: Brand New Day was set to be released between the next two Avengers movies, I felt like there was no way the film could be anything but a multiverse story. After all, I believe the most logical way Avengers: Doomsday could end is with Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom becoming all-powerful and creating Battleworld as he did in the comics, which would lead to Avengers: Secret Wars. A street-level Spider-Man movie would not fit into those plans.

However, now that the MCU's next Spider-Man will be released before Avengers: Doomsday, the film does not have to continue any plotlines and major franchise changes set up by the Avengers movie. As such, the door is open for Spider-Man: Brand New Day to be a smaller, street-level story that focuses on building Peter Parker back up after Spider-Man: No Way Home took everything from him. Exciting characters like Mister Negative, Scorpion, Kingpin, and Black Cat would all fit that direction, and I hope Spider-Man: Brand New Day takes it, making the most out of the Avengers movies' delays.
