Itsy Bitsy's disturbing origin, and the ultimately tragic arc of her encounter with her "fathers" Deadpool and Spider-Man make her one of the most complex characters in Spider-Man history, despite her limited appearances in Marvel Comics lore up to this point. That is why her reappearance in The Amazing Spider-Man #2 is so significant; more than just adding a deadly dimension to the new series' debut arc, this brings Itsy Bitsy back to the foreground of the Marvel Universe, where she has the potential to be a potent antagonist for Spider-Man, Deadpool, and beyond.

Gifted with both Spider-Man's spider-powers, and Deadpool's unparalleled healing abilities, as well as his gleeful bloodlist, Itsy Bitsy should quickly prove to be a formidable foe.

In The Amazing Spider-Man #2, Peter Parker finds Itsy Bitsy as she is looming over an unconscious Rhino, sharp red blades clutched in her multiple arms, ready to strike, and she greets him with a cool, yet ominous "hey, daddy..." It will be interesting to find out how the next issue handles recapping the character's origin, just as it will be exciting to learn how she serves as a full-blown antagonist for the Wallcrawler. Gifted with both Deadpool's unparalleled healing abilities, as well as his gleeful bloodlist, Itsy Bitsy should quickly prove to be a formidable foe.

Itsy Bitsy has the makings of an iconic villain, from her dangerous-looking design, to her horror-story origin, as well as her deeply personal connection to two of Marvel's most beloved heroes, Spider-Man and Deadpool. Her appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man #2 could be the start of a more impactful run in the Marvel Universe, and by all means, it should be. Even if it only amounts to a cameo, though, it says something about the direction this Amazing Spider-Man series is prepared to go in.

Itsy Bitsy's original arc was bleak, and her return sets her on the path of seeking vengeance against Spider-Man; a redemption for the character would be a swerve, while doing something irrevocable, such as harming Peter Parker's current girlfriend, Shay, could elevate her to a higher level of antagonist. Whatever her role turns out to be, the use of the character suggests that this era of Amazing Spider-Man will force Spider-Man to confront the dark corners of his legacy, and the unintended consequences of his heroic past.
