Sony Entertainment Pictures is reportedly keeping all of the profits from the box office sales of Captain America: Civil War.

Much has been said regarding the unprecedented partnership between Marvel and Sony to bring this new version of Spider-Man to life. Over the last 15 years, we have seen two other incarnations of the character from Sony in Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield respectively amassing $4 billion in global box office across 5 films. Despite the decent money made from the previous films, this one arguably tracks to outperform its predecessors and as it turns out, Sony will be able to reap all the profits from the project.

The information comes to light courtesy of a recent article published LA Times. The report details that Sony, who funded Homecoming, will pocket its profits. Disney (who owns all of Marvel), on the other hand, will rake in the sales from all the toys and other merchandise tied in with the character. That is on top of Marvel Studios being able to creatively use arguably Marvel's most popular character in a number of their films.

This particular news comes off of the heels of Marvel Studios' head honcho, Kevin Feige, opening up on how the deal between them and Sony came to fruition. Although what the exec previously said sounded more of a cliffs note version of what we could only assume as a long and tedious deliberation process for both companies to shake on the business agreement.

At this point, Homecoming is tracking to cash in $100 million on its opening weekend alone. A great indication in of profits for a film that was only worth $175 million to make. It also helps that early buzz for the film has been overwhelmingly positive and the Marvel brand doing its job in hyping not just fans, but even casual moviegoers to see the movie.

It is safe to say that Spider-Man: Homecoming is a great first official project to come out of the Sony and Marvel business deal. Both companies are getting what they want from the agreement and despite a couple of start principal photography next year.
