Michael Mando Reveals His Spider-Man Character

[SPOILERS ahead for Spider-Man: Homecoming]

Michael Mando finally reveals his secret role for Spider-Man: Homecoming ahead of the film's premiere. After the actor was revealed to be a part of the project, his role has been subject to countless speculation trying to pin down who he is playing. And it is nice to finally have some confirmation regarding the mystery straight from the actor himself.

Over the past few weeks, principal cast and key personalities involved in Homecoming have sat down with numerous media outlets trying to get a few last details about the film. And with the movie nearing release, more and more details are emerging. Not a part of the press rounds, Mando ultimately dropped information about his secret role in the movie settling the speculation once and for all.

As it turns out, the actor is taking on the role of the villain, Scorpion. Mando made the announcement via his official Instagram with a photo of the character's LEGO figure. “Stiinggg ? !!! Over the moon to be playing my favorite Super Villain THE SCORPION!!! Heading to premiere tonight to cause some ruckus,” he wrote in the caption.

To the uninitiated, Scorpion is one of the villains that Spider-Man has faced in his storied comic book history. The character has undergone changes over the years, but he is arguably best known as the alter ego of MacDonald "Mac" Gargan, who first appeared in 1964's The Amazing Spider-Man #19. Originally tasked by James Jonah Jameson to track down and figure out the mystery around the web-slinging superhero, Gargan became the subject of a lab experiment and was infused with Scorpion DNA causing him to have reflexes similar to the predatory arachnids. But the more he used his powers, the more unhinged he became.

Interestingly, Gargan also became Venom in the pages of the comic books and soon after also took on the role of the Dark Reign Spider-Man when Norman Osborne helmed S.H.I.E.L.D. Obviously, this could be a little too convoluted to be incorporated in Tom Holland's budding version of Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Scorpion's ties to Venom are intriguing, especially with Sony's separate plan to bring the character to life with Tom Hardy.

As of now, it is unknown just how much of Mando's Scorpion is part in Spider-Man: Homecoming's narrative. The villain roster is crammed with a sequel is already being mapped out by Sony and Marvel.
