The 8 Deaths of Spider-Man story arc kicks off with Doctor Doom choosing Spider-Man to deal with one of his Sorcerer Supreme duties in his place, granting him a Cyttorak's Scions, all of whom are empowered by the demon god. One of the newfound abilities at Spider-Man's disposal is the power to revive himself when he dies, which comes to his aid when battling opponents as overwhelmingly durable as Juggernaut. Unfortunately, Spider-Man can't cheat death forever, and this issue sees him face what should be his end.

Luckily, his capacity for love captivates Cyra, one of Cyttorak's Scions. She sees that he truly loves the world he aims to protect as a superhero, so she makes the decision to sacrifice her immortality in order to restore his mortal life in the wake of his ing. With the power of Cyttorak flowing through him, Spider-Man returns to the land of the living with a Juggernaut-inspired look, including his classic helmet and massive body. The Web-Slinger is usually known for his speed and agility, but he's now able to tank enemies like the X-Men's resident brawler.
