Madame Web has been released in theaters, and the film holds plenty of Easter eggs to the Sony Spider-Man Universe among many other Marvel properties.
How Tom Holland’s Spider-Man Could Have Helped Save Madame Web
The SSU Movie Was A Box Office Bomb
Given how Madame Web's story included characters closely related to Peter Parker, Holland's Spider-Man would most likely have had to appear in the film through the multiverse. That might have been the reason why Sony decided not to use the character if Holland was indeed the Spider-Man planned for the movie. Adam Scott played Ben Parker — Uncle Ben — in Madame Web, with Emma Roberts as Mary Parker, Peter Parker's mom, who was pregnant.
Spider-Man's inclusion in Madame Web could have stemmed from the fact that Mary was pregnant. If Ezekiel Sims' visions of the future were that he would be killed by Sydney Sweeney's Julia Cornwall and the other Spider-Women, then the villain could also have foreseen the danger that Peter Parker would become to him as Spider-Man in the future. Peter going back in time — or coming through the multiverse — to stop his death while still in the womb would have given Madame Web a more urgent and exciting plot.
As it stood, Madame Web was a lackluster film that left a lot to be desired in regard to its villain, story, dialogue, and more. Holland's Spider-Man is the most successful version of the character to date. The actor's latest MCU solo movie, the blockbuster event Spider-Man: No Way Home, earned almost $2 billion worldwide even without China and as theaters recovered from the pandemic. By simply adding Holland's Spider-Man to Madame Web, Sony would have guaranteed a healthy box office for the film, preventing all the negative records broken by the SSU project.
