Warning! Contains a preview for The Amazing Spider-Man #90
In a new preview for Marvel Comics' Amazing Spider-Man, it's revealed that the new Queen Goblin has an advantage over Peter Parker that no other Goblin has had before. With Ben Reilly's Spider-Man having been compromised thanks to his corrupt bosses at the Beyond Corporation, the original Spider-Man is attempting to get back in the swing of things after being hospitalized. However, the OG Webslinger couldn't be facing a more challenging villain.
In previous issues of Amazing Spider-Man, it was revealed that the Beyond Corporation has been darkly manipulating Ben Reilly's mind and memories to turn him into their perfect asset. However, it seems as though they weren't counting on the fragility of Ben's mind seeing as how his foundational memories are copies of Peter Parker's. As such, Beyond recently went too far with their brain tampering and inadvertently erased a core memory, resulting in Ben forgetting all about power and responsibility. In contrast, Peter Parker has never felt more responsible despite his body not being fully recovered.
That being said, it looks as though Peter can't be stopped despite his weakened body, having decided to return as Spider-Man in the new preview for The Amazing Spider-Man #90 from Patrick Gleason. However, it's already clear in his first few moments fighting the Queen Goblin that Peter's incredibly out of his element. Not only is he slower and weaker than normal, but the new Goblin reveals that she knows every move Spider-Man is going to make before he does thanks that the plethora of data and surveillance Beyond has collected on Spider-Man which she has access to (being a secret creation of Beyond serving as a villain counterpart to Ben). Here are the preview pages and the synopsis for the issue:
BEYOND, CHAPTER SIXTEEN
QUEEN GOBLIN IS TRIUMPHANT! The Daily Bugle is decimated. Can Ben Reilly bounce back and take down the Queen Goblin?
Peter was not ready for this fight by any means, despite his willingness to be Spider-Man once more. The Queen Goblin is simply too powerful and has too much knowledge about how the original Spider-Man moves and fights thanks to Beyond, having a large combat advantage more than any other Goblin who's come before. As a result, it does seem as though Ben Reilly's Spider-Man may return to face the Queen Goblin despite his damaged mind.
Seeing as how the synopsis refers to Ben as the Spider-Man to potentially take down the Queen Goblin, perhaps a new team-up between the two Spider-Men is in order. Now that Ben knows that truth about Beyond who wants to orchestrate superpowered fights to act as smokescreens for various client needs, he'll hopefully be ready to turn against his employers. Perhaps Ben's Spider-Man will officially quit when the full issue of Amazing Spider-Man releases on February 23rd after he defeats the Queen Goblin.
