Spider-Man's romance with Mary Jane Watson is beloved by comic fans, but rather than bringing them back together, Marvel has created a new love interest for Peter Parker who isn't exactly winning people over. Despite complaints, Lynda Locke seems to be here for the long haul as her romance with Spider-Man blossoms.

Astonishing Spider-Man Infinity Comic, available on Marvel Unlimited, introduces Lynda as iconic upside-down kiss between Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson from the Spider-Man 2 film.

Lynda Locke kisses Spider-Man upside down in the rain

Spider-Man readers aren't thrilled about Peter having yet another love interest who isn't Mary Jane, and the fact that they're stealing a moment from Peter and MJ's history is sure to rub salt in that wound.

Web-Head, aka Lynda Locke, Has Begun a Romance With Spider-Man

Spider-Man kisses Web-Head aka Lynda Locke

Lynda Locke makes her first appearance in Spider-Man Unlimited Infinity Comic #40 by Scott Aukerman and Federico Sabbatini, when she goes on a date with Peter Parker that's interrupted by a villain attack. Readers then discover that she leads a double life as the superhero Web-Head, who possesses similar powers to Spider-Man. More recently, in Astonishing Spider-Man #12 by Aukerman and Julian Shaw, Lynda and Peter give dating another try. It doesn't last long before they erupt into an argument over Peter's mind being stuck on Mary Jane, and they go their separate ways.

Though Spider-Man and Web-Head's civilian selves are at odds with each other, their superhero alter egos get along much more swimmingly. The two end up sharing a ionate kiss a few issues later, after Peter and MJ argue with each other about whether he should quit being Spider-Man. Despite Peter's complex feelings surrounding Mary Jane and their past romance, he seems to be crushing on Lynda Locke, and the feeling is mutual by the looks of it. Like it or not, there's a good chance that a full-fledged relationship is in the works between Peter and Lynda.

Spider-Man and Mary Jane Still Aren't Back Together, Much to Fans' Dismay

Things Are Complicated Between Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson

Unfortunately for fans of Spider-Man and Mary Jane as a couple, it doesn't seem like Marvel intends to bring them back together any time soon. In addition to Peter showing interest in Web-Head, he has a Paul, even though Marvel fans are vocal about disliking the character. In any case, Spider-Man isn't ready to find his way back to MJ, though the tension between them in this series suggests that there's still hope he'll choose her over Lynda.
