The confusion over whether Spider-Man: Homecoming exist in the same world isn't clearing up anytime soon, as producer Amy Pascal its the two sets of characters may crossover eventually. When the news broke of Sony creating a Venom movie, fans immediately began wondering if it was part of the MCU. From there, Tom Hardy was cast in the lead role and Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) landed in the director's chair, but the connection to Spidey was still left open. In the past few weeks, however, that state of confusion has only increased.
First came word from Marvel head Kevin Feige that Venom movie is indeed separate. For fans who feel more confused than ever, things don't look like they're going to clear up anytime soon.
In an interview with Fandom that included both Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige, the pair discussed Spider-Man: Homecoming and touched on Venom. When asked if the two characters could ever share the screen together, Pascal seemed hopeful.
“Venom is a character that is closely associated with Spidey and there may be some day where you see them together, you never know.”

Pascal isn't wrong. Venom as a character is almost completely entwined with Spider-Man, from the powers he has to the Symbiote itself to the many characters who have bonded with the organism. It's that above all else that has left fans wondering how Venom can exist outside of Spidey's world. As for whether Pascal's comments clear up the MCU questions, they seem to indicate Venom is in fact in the MCU. Otherwise, how else would he ever share the screen with Spider-Man?
The reality of the situation is that Sony have the rights to use the Spidey characters however they want. Even in Homecoming, Marvel won't be getting a dime. The benefit for them is having Spidey in their main movies, while also being able to merchandise the character as part of the MCU. As such, Marvel don't really have any creative say over things like Venom and thus don't wont to openly discuss him being in the MCU.
That said, Feige wants to leave the door open for Venom and the Venom shooting soon and Spider-Man: Homecoming almost in theaters, we could know more sooner than later.
