Spoilers for Spider-Verse vs Venomverse #1!
Marvel has officially kicked off their latest Venom -related event in this summer’s Spider-Verse vs Venomverse series — an epic comic book story that promises exciting action, never-before-seen characters, and a set of multiversal stakes that threaten everyone on both sides of the conflict. As the first issue of this series shows, Spider-Man and Venom have their work cut out for them, settling the debate of which character is worthy of surviving this harrowing ordeal.
A multiverse-spanning Spider-Man story that began over ten years ago with 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man #9, this inaugural Spider-Verse tale eventually led to multiple comic sequels such as Spider-Geddon and End of the Spider-Verse, with Venom also receiving a similar event in his 2017 Venomverse limited series.
Released as the first chapter in a planned five-part story, Spider-Verse vs Venomverse #1 has been hyped as the most devastating — and possibly final — battle between Spider-Man and Venom, with Spider-Verse vs Venomverse confirming that the entire purpose of this event is to wipe either all spiders or all symbiotes from existence!
Spider-Man and Venom Are Fighting Their Final Battle in Marvel’s Spider-Verse vs Venomverse Event
Spider-Verse vs Venomverse #1 - 2025 (Matt Groom, Kyle Higgins, and Luciano Vecchio)
Starting with a series of split-screen s that see Peter Parker’s Spider-Man and a mysteriously Venomized and non-Carnage Eddie Brock share dialogue detailing their eerily similar paths as characters, it isn’t long before the ultimate multiversal authorities known as the “Web-Heart” and “Hive Mind” pluck them from their worlds and zap them someplace unknown. Transported along with four of their respective verse’s heroes — Spider-Prowler, Recluse, Weapon VIII, and Spider-Ham for Spidey and Agent Venom, Spider-Clan Venom, Viking Venom, and a mysterious new human-looking Venom for Eddie — the rules of this “game” that Spider-Man and Venom unwillingly entered, are laid out.

Spider-Man Reveals the 1 Villain Who Truly Scares Him and It's Definitely Not Green Goblin
Spider-Man has fought many fearsome villains within his career as a hero, but only one supervillain has been able to shake Peter Parker to his core.
Detailing the reasoning behind this “War of the Webs,” the Web-Heart and Hive Mind reveal how they want to avoid an unavoidable conflict where “an inconceivable number of spiders and symbiotes perish.” Deciding to host a three-round game that will destroy the Web of Life or the symbiote hive mind depending on who loses, the Web-Heart and Hive Mind explain how they’ve “negotiated teams, rules and consequences” and that in the first round, each side must reach the opposing team’s “central pillar,” with survival not necessarily guaranteed, setting the stakes for an event that could end badly for everyone involved.
Marvel’s Latest Comic Event Will Settle Whether Spider-Man or Venom Are Worthy of Survival
This Event Could End Badly for the Spider-Verse or the Venomverse
After making his debut over four decades ago, Venom and the rest of his hive mind may finally be on borrowed time. But if Spider-Man and his fellow spiders have anything to say about it, both sides will surely survive this twisted game of fate… hopefully. Unfortunately, it seems that one side must perish to avoid some inevitable conflict that could destroy both, so with Spider-Verse vs Venomverse only just beginning, fans should stay tuned to this epic Spider-Man x Venom tale because this may very well be the last time either character is seen in a comic book again!
