SAN FRANCISCO BOUND!

Brokenhearted, Jess decides to leave New York for a fresh start. But the trek across country will not be a smooth ride. A new adventure starts here! Introducing some new faces and with the potential to become New…Champions?!

Last year, Marvel teased that young heroes from the New Champions series of variant covers would be making their way into the Marvel Universe. The information about Spider-Woman #6, combined with a newly shared cover for issue #7, seemingly confirms that these New Champions are indeed on their way.

Mentoring the New Champions Could Help Spider-Woman

Launched during the events of Marvel's recent Gang War, the heart of Jessica Drew's latest solo title has been her quest to reunite with her abducted son, Gerry. Having been briefly erased from reality in the most recent series of Spider-Verse shenanigans, Jess' toddler was vulnerable to the greedy eyes of Hydra. The evil organization kidnapped him and inflicted the same trauma on him that it once did to Spider-Woman by rapidly aging Gerry to young adulthood and brainwashing him into being an operative. Averting this tragedy had been one of Jessica's driving goals in motherhood; now, coping with her failure won't be easy.

Spider-Woman won't give up on getting Gerry’s childhood back. Restoring him will take time, and some space, if her California sojourn is any indication. This trip could lead Jess to Marvel's latest team of young heroes. Introduced via variant covers last year, the New Champions were created by artists commissioned to Maystorm would be the first to leap from cover to page in Ultimate X-Men. Marvel's 2023 one-shot Timeless teased that something similar lay ahead for the other New Champions, which the Spider-Woman solicit confirms.

New character introductions are exciting, but fans of the Champions, the already popular team of super teens, might feel like their faves are having their toes stepped on.

The in-universe origins behind each member of the New Champions remains a mystery, but their arrival is sure to stir up mixed feelings among readers. New character introductions are exciting, but fans of the Champions, the already popular team of super teens, might feel like their faves are having their toes stepped on. Even if the New Champions are as winsome as they appear, there's no promise that mentorship under Jessica Drew is a match made in heaven. Spider-Woman is in a vulnerable place, and guiding the young heroes of the New Champions could make or break her.

Spider-Woman #6 will be available on April 17 from Marvel Comics.
