WARNING: Spider-Man: Far From Home.
Now that Spider-Man: Far From Home is out in theaters, it's clear that many fan theories that were entirely false. A core reason why the Marvel Cinematic Universe has become as big as it is currently is because of the fans. The quality of most of the movies helps, but the fandom obsesses over the development, trailers, and movies themselves they basically serve as marketing. In the lead up to every release, theories are created on what could happen in the latest film or even how it could set up what will follow.
This was yet again the case with Spider-Man: Far From Home, the second film in Marvel Studios and Sony's new franchise led by Tom Holland. It has been in theaters a mere two weeks, but the reception to the film has already been great. Critical reviews were mostly positive, and the worldwide box office haul has already ed $850 million, putting it on track to earn $1 billion.
The success that Spider-Man: Far From Home's experiencing isn't completely surprising, but the movie itself did include a few shocking moments. At almost every turn, the sequel managed to surprise audiences, even hardcore Marvel comics readers. While many correctly theorized that Mysterio wasn't a good guy, several theories did not pan out. Screen Rant's latest video dives into ten of them, which you can see at the top of this post, or continue reading as we highlight a few of the more prominent theories that Spider-Man: Far From Home proved wrong.
MJ Is Nick Fury's Daughter
One of the Far From Home theories that picked up a surprising amount of early on was the idea that MJ (Zendaya) would be revealed to be Nick Fury's daughter in the MCU. There was no real evidence to the theory on paper, but it spread regardless. The reasoning for such a revelation was that MJ was sent to Peter's high school to keep tabs on him for Fury. However, this is not true, as far as Spider-Man: Far From Home shows. Fury and MJ never share the screen, and MJ is allowed to be a smart, resourceful teenage girl without having to have Fury as her father.
Peter's Parents Were S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents
Another popular theory for Spider-Man: Far From Home was that it would reveal Peter's parents were former S.H.I.E.L.D. agents who worked for Fury before their deaths. This is based on the comics and something The Amazing Spider-Man 2 established in its own way. In this case, though, the theory posited that the deaths of Mr. and Mrs. Parker were the reason why Fury would take a particular interest in Peter and feel comfortable bringing him into the fold. In reality, it was the belief that Tony Stark had in Peter and the fortuitous nature of Midtown High's European trip that made Fury (who was the Skrull named Talos) recruit the web-slinger.
While these particular theories for Spider-Man: Far From Home didn't come to , that will not and should not discourage fans from continuing to theorize over what could happen in future MCU films. After all, some theories were correct for the sequel, and it is part of the fun of this franchise.
