Spending time with the Avengers made Tom Holland's Spider-Man better than Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as highlighted in Spider-Man: No Way Home. All three live-action versions of the web-slinging hero came together for the first time in the Jon Watts-directed threequel. Naturally, comparisons were inevitable, but while it's difficult to pick a definitive answer on who's the best among the three, it emphasizes how Holland's arc in the MCU makes him better than his predecessors.
After the unexpected failure of Avengers: Endgame, as well as, his own solo films, the latest of which was Spider-Man: No Way Home. The threequel not only wrapped up his own trilogy, but it also tied together all three eras of Spider-Man on the big screen. Thanks to its multiversal narrative, both Maguire and Garfield reprised their Marvel role, ing Holland's iteration to fight interdimensional villains.
The trio coming together is arguably the best thing in the threequel, with some still obsessing about Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy's attack on Thanos (Josh Brolin) in Vormir.
Being able to fight on his own and a part of a team makes Holland's Spider-Man a more dynamic hero compared to his predecessors. Since ing the MCU, he has been in a number of group battles, including fighting fellow heroes in Captain America: Civil War. That being said, Marvel Studios also has also given him plenty of opportunities to fight on his own such as his final battles with Vulture (Michael Keaton) and Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal). One of the biggest criticisms MCU Spider-Man has gotten is that he barely has his own identity. Unlike Maguire and Garfield who mostly fought on their own, Spider-Man has been paired up with a mentor in the franchise. He was originally Iron Man's (Robert Downey Jr.) mentor; when he died, Talos (Benn Mendelsohn) impersonating Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) scooped in and most recently, Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) teamed up with him. But each companion imparted some skill to him — something that the other Spider-Men didn't have because they were mostly alone.
The debate on wh0's the best live-action Spider-Man will more likely continue beyond Spider-Man: No Way Home. And chances are that there won't be any definitive answer to it since people have their own opinions on each of them. But it's only fair to recognize how being in the MCU and ing the Avengers made Holland's Spider-Man a better-skilled fighter than Maguire and Holland.
