If The Amazing Spider-Man 2, will reprise his role in the sequel.

With both him and Doctor Strange involved, it seems possible that Spider-Man 3 could be dealing with the Multiverse in some regard. Following the massive success of Miles Morales has yet to be seen outside of animation, there have been at least two huge Spider-Man franchises prior to Holland’s that the MCU could turn to, should Sony Pictures be up for it. From Maguire, who played the part from 2002 – 2007, to Garfield’s short-lived run between 2012 – 2014, they are two well-known cinematic versions of Peter Parker. In the perfect scenario, both Maguire and Garfield would get to take part in Holland’s Spider-Man sequel, uniting the three modern versions of Peter on the big screen.

They were both fantastic as their respective version of the web-slinger, but they didn’t have the same outcome before being done with the iconic role. If Spider-Man 3 can only feature one of them, Garfield's Spider-Man deserves it more. It’s not because of one actor being more talented than the other, but because of how Maguire and Garfield had such different conclusions to their franchises. Despite the controversial 2007 film, Maguire’s final Spider-Man film was a box office success and Sony was at least trying to make Spider-Man 4, even going as far as considering Spider-Man 5 and Spider-Man 6. While the sequel trilogy got scrapped, Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man franchise faced more problems which is why it didn’t continue after 2014. Through various statements by the cast and crew, as well as moves by Sony, Marc Webb’s films had the interference of too many cooks in the kitchen.

Andrew Garfield vs Tom Holland Spider-Man

The Amazing Spider-Man 2, rather than be a proper sequel to Garfield’s Spidey, became more of a marketing tool for spinoffs that Sony had in mind, including the Sinister Six. Despite gearing up for a third installment, things didn’t end up going forward as the infamous Sony hack in 2015 revealed that Garfield had been fired. Amongst a lot of other leaks that indicated Sony's huge problems with the Spider-Man universe, it led to them making a deal with Marvel Studios to bring Spidey into the MCU, and the rest is history. What Garfield's Spider-Man lacks in comparison to Maguire's version is a sense of conclusion. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 ended with Peter taking up the mantle again while still suffering from the tragic death of Gwen Stacy. In Maguire's Spider-Man 3, Uncle Ben's murder came to an end and Peter had his biggest battle yet against both Sandman and Venom, while he lost his best friend Harry Osborn in the war.

Even if the sequel trilogy never got made, at least Maguire's Spider-Man had a trilogy that saw the hero's full growth over three installments. Garfield's version, however, was never given an ending due to the inner problems of Sony. Spider-Man 3 can do for Garfield what the Spider-Man 3 can only have Holland swing his webs with one former Spider-Man, it'll hopefully be Andrew Garfield as a recognition for his hard work despite having to go through a lot of Sony's hoops.
