The recent demo of Spider-Man: Miles Morales at the PlayStation 5 Showcase unveiled some new details about the game, including a look at the primary villains. In particular, there's a new army in town, sporting armor and weapons in a vibrant shade of purple.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a standalone spin-off from Spider-Man: Miles Morales is set one year after the events of Marvel's Spider-Man. It will be the first time that the powered version of Miles will be playable in a game, as he gained his abilities over the course of the story of Marvel's Spider-Man.

With new powers comes new villains. In their post on the Miles has his own unique abilities to help counter this new foe.

Who is the Tinkerer?

Phin AKA The Tinkerer in Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales

While the Tinkerer has been a foe of Miles Morales in the comics, this is appears to be a new version of the character. For one thing, the Tinkerer in Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a woman (the character has traditionally been a man, either Phineas Mason or Elijah Stern). For another, the Tinkerer appears to be an active villain using her own inventions. Past iterations of the character have made the Tinkerer out to be more of a provider of weapons to super-villains (or whoever else requests their inventions), rather than a field combatant.

Whatever the Underground is up to, they apparently need a significant power source. The heist on the bridge that Spider-Man interrupts was to steal NuForm, a supposedly clean source of energy created by Roxxon. As Insomniac labels Roxxon as "devious," it's safe to assume they have a more sinister agenda at play. NuForm is also described as "highly volatile," so its possible that the Underground will create some kind of explosive, either intentionally or unintentionally. Either way, it looks like Miles may find himself in the middle of a war in Harlem when Spider-Man: Miles Morales releases later this year.
