Sony's new trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home's home release features a number of new shots of Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire. One of the most ambitious movies in the MCU to date, Spider-Man: No Way Home revealed the true potential of the multiverse. The film's third act saw Tom Holland's Spider-Man team up with previous big-screen iterations of the wall-crawler, played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. What might have been hollow fanservice instead became a truly poignant storyline that offered closure for the original two Spider-Men and a moving setup for future MCU Spider-Man projects.

Spider-Man: No Way Home has proved to be a hit, grossing over $1.8 billion worldwide in spite of the coronavirus pandemic. Marvel and Sony have now announced the film's home and digital release on April 12, and they released a brand new Spider-Man: No Way Home as well. It includes a number of clips, notably the unforgettable scene featuring Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock, as well as several shots featuring Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.

Marvel avoided revealing any footage of Maguire and Garfield as part of Spider-Man: No Way Home's marketing, which makes these shots particularly exciting. They're mostly behind-the-scenes footage, including from interviews. Here's a guide to all the new images of Garfield and Maguire.

The Three Spider-Men Posing For Promo Shots

The first Spider-Man film was released in 2002, and since then there have been eight solo Spider-Man movies - and no less than three live-action Spider-Men. The multiverse afforded Marvel Studios the opportunity to bring the three together, revealing all previous Marvel films and TV shows can exist as part of alternate dimensions and branched timelines. All three actors - Holland, Maguire, and Garfield - appear to have had a blast. In one memorable shot, they're shown standing side-by-side looking forward, the kind of superhero pose typically found on the front cover of a comic book.

All Three Swinging Into Action

Spider-Man No Way Home Three Spider-Men

One of the most memorable shots from the movie shows the three Spider-Man perched atop the crown of No Way Home's remodeled Statue of Liberty, ready to confront their multiversal enemies. Marvel and Sony clearly understood this would be iconic, releasing a visibly-edited version with only Holland's Spider-Man as part of the trailers. This provided an opportunity to showcase all three Spider-Men side-by-side, with the visual effects team carefully simulating the postures of each of the three. Interestingly, the trailer reveals just how seamlessly the live-action photography and VFX were integrated, because it began live - and then turned into a massive CGI action sequence, which the VFX team edited to create a tremendous superhero showdown.

Andrew Garfield Behind-The-Scenes Interview

Spider-Man No Way Home Andrew Garfield Interview

The latest Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer teases interviews with the main cast - including Maguire and Garfield. Andrew Garfield faced constant questions about whether he would return in this film, and consistently batted them away; he's since itted he felt guilty about the necessary lies. His tremendous performance in Spider-Man: No Way Home has led to a fan campaign for Sony to bring Garfield back for The Amazing Spider-Man 3.

The Trio Goofing Around

The three actors clearly enjoyed working together, with behind-the-scene clips from Spider-Man: No Way Home showing them laughing during production. The home and digital release include a wealth of special features, including bloopers, so there will clearly be a lot of shots like this. Apparently, Holland initially found the crossover story intimidating, not least because they were already three months into production before Garfield and Maguire arrived on-set in Atlanta. Amusingly, Holland ed asking Jacob Batalon and Zendaya to accompany him on his first day shooting with them, but quickly realized he didn't need the moral .

Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man Coming Through The Portal

Andrew Garfield Portal Spider-Man No Way Home

Andrew Garfield's debut in Spider-Man: No Way Home is unforgettable. Spider-Man's best friend Ned discovers he can actually use Doctor Strange's sling-ring, and he opens a portal looking for Peter Parker–he just doesn't specify which one. It's interesting to note Ned stops using the sling-ring after he's summoned Garfield and Maguire's Spider-Men, meaning it's entirely possible there are other versions of the wall-crawler drawn through the dimensions as well. Spider-Man: No Way Home could yet serve to have unprecedented, unexpected impacts on the future of the MCU.

Garfield And Maguire Goofing Around

Another shot from Spider-Man: No Way Home showed Garfield and Maguire working together on some of the final scenes. This was clearly taken from the end of the third-act battle at the Statue of Liberty, after Maguire's Spider-Man is injured by Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin. Wounded, he's helped to his feet by Garfield's Peter Parker, and the two can only watch as the multiverse comes closer than ever to tearing apart. Marvel has always been noted for its extensive use of CGI environments, and this was no exception.

An Emotional Hug Between Holland And Maguire

The close friendship between Garfield, Holland, and Maguire is perfectly demonstrated by one shot from what may well be their last day working together. They're shown sharing hugs and bearing wrap gift flowers. Holland has itted he regretted not reaching out to Garfield when he was initially cast as Peter Parker, but there was clearly no bad blood between them. The three set up a Spider-Man group chat, and according to Holland, it's still active now.

One final shot shows Maguire and Garfield working with the ing stars of the MCU's Spider-Man trilogy, notably Jacob Batalon and Zendaya. This is set shortly before the third act, with the team working on ways to depower the villains and change their destinies. As Garfield reflects in the latest Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer, the entire cast welcomed the two new Spider-Men with open arms. It seems the friendships were all sealed with humor.

-

Until now, there haven't been many images of Garfield and Maguire from Spider-Man: No Way Home - and deliberately so. Marvel and Sony's entire marketing strategy revolved around refusing to confirm the previous Spider-Men were returning for the threequel, and it proved to be a smart approach. In the absence of official comment, the fans grew convinced the two Spider-Men were certain to return, and thankfully their hopes were more than fulfilled. Most had expected cameos, but instead, the two actors played major roles in the entire third act. The home and digital release of Spider-Man: No Way Home will reportedly be accompanied by a full 20 minutes of additional scenes featuring Garfield and Maguire, meaning these eight shots are just a hint of what's to come. And hopefully, this will indeed prove to be a launchpad - not just for the next MCU Spider-Man film, but also for more starring Maguire and Garfield.
