During a recent press tour for Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer for clues. Originally set for release last year, Denis Villeneuve's adaptation of Dune was repeatedly delayed due to the effects of coronavirus. However, with the world slowly returning to some form of normality, the film is now finally set to premiere at the 2021 Venice Film Festival in a matter of days.
While these festival screenings will give fans a good first impression of initial audience reactions, the general public will still have to wait until late October to be able to see the film for themselves. Supposedly adapting the first half of Frank Herbert's 1965 sci-fi epic, Dune features Chalamet as Paul Atreides, as he fights for control over the desert planet of Arrakis. Chalamet is ed by a star studded cast, including Rebecca Ferguson, Jason Mamoa, Josh Brolin, Oscar Isaac and Dave Bautista.
While speaking to Deadline about Dune, Chalamet also discussed the character of Chani, played by Zendaya, whose role is set to be much bigger in the film's proposed sequel, which is still looking to get green-lit. Discussing Zendaya's other work, Chalamet spoke about how excited everyone was when the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer recently released, which sees Zendaya reprise her role of Mary-Jane. Chalamet its he watched the trailer frame by frame attempting to catch some clues. Check out Chalamet's full quote below:
And as I said before, this was before I’d seen Euphoria and Malcolm & Marie. She’s doing such incredible work and is just trailblazing her own path, and she’s so, so cool. She also happens to be in the most-watched trailer of the moment, too, for Spider-Man: No Way Home. I cannot wait for that movie, and I was there, by the way, with everybody else, clicking through the trailer frame by frame looking for clues [laughs].
Since its release, the trailer for Spider-Man 2 villain Doctor Octopus, played once again by Alfred Molina, as well as hinting towards the return of many other classic villains, including Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin and Jamie Foxx's Electro.
As of writing this article, Chalamet is still yet to appear in any superhero franchises, but from his quote, it certainly seems that it is a genre the actor is a fan of. Aside from the second half of Dune, which he hopes will eventually get made, Chalamet is signed on to play Willy Wonka in Paul King's Wonka, Lee in Luca Guadagnino's Bones and All, as well as Bob Dylan in the biopic, Going Electric. With the huge slew of work scheduled in the near future, it seems unlikely that Chalamet would be able to commit to any of the superhero franchises at this time, so he may instead have to continue to live his superhero fantasies vicariously through his co-stars when Spider-Man: No Way Home releases later this year.
