Nintendo is attempting to build excitement for Splatoon 3 with a new Nintendo Switch OLED featuring a Special Edition design that should appeal to any fans looking forward to the shooter. Unlike other popular Nintendo franchises like Super Mario and The Legend of Zelda, Splatoon is a newer entry in the company's impressive portfolio. While many gamers have a large variety of multiplayer shooters to choose from, Nintendo created a more family-friendly twist on the formula.
When Splatoon 3 launches on the Nintendo Switch on September 9th, it will include both single-player and multiplayer content that should interest both new and veteran players. In an effort to establish a player base ahead of time, Nintendo is offering a free week of Nintendo Switch Online service for players to participate in the limited Splatoon 3 Splatfest demo on August 27th. However, fans of the franchise don't need to wait that long to purchase their own Special Edition Nintendo Switch OLED modeled after the new game.
The Nintendo Switch - OLED Model Splatoon 3 Special Edition is available for purchase starting August 26th, meaning fans of the series can get theirs in preparation for the new game's September release. A short video showcasing what the new Switch console will look like was shown on OLED system and the Splatoon-themed designs on both the joy cons and Switch dock. Unfortunately, the Special Edition Splatoon 3 Switch will not include the pro controller or the game it is themed after.
Shooters and battle royale games continue to be popular amongst many gamers. Still, Nintendo fans have seen a lot fewer options when it comes to competitive online shooters. Many of Nintendo's popular multiplayer games, like Super Smash Bros. and Mario Kart, offer online multiplayer fun, but it wasn't until Splatoon was released that Nintendo fans had their own team-based multiplayer shooter experience. Many of Splatoon's modes encourage players to use strategy and teamwork to cover ground with their own paint. Shooting ink colors stages and gives players special opportunities to travel faster and hide to surprise enemy players.
The fast-paced and charming gameplay of Splatoon looks to be in full force in the third game. New maps and weapons are coming to Splatoon 3, with even more content planned to release post-launch through free updates. Nintendo has announced that there will be "large-scale paid DLC" for Splatoon 3 in the future but has yet to give further details. However, fans should receive more than enough new content to enjoy with the new Special Edition Switch OLED console and the game's September 9th release date.
