The critically acclaimed co-op adventure Nintendo's stated restrictions for GameShare.
According to the EA website (via VGC), "GameShare will enable Nintendo Switch 2 owners to invite another player to play together over a local wireless connection using just one copy of the game," but the player without a copy "can be not only a Nintendo Switch 2 owner but a Nintendo Switch owner as well." This is despite the Nintendo website saying that "[original] Nintendo Switch systems can only receive games that are compatible with Nintendo Switch."
Split Fiction Might Contradict Nintendo's GameShare Rules
Could EA Be Mistaken On Its Own Website?
EA has not announced a version of Split Fiction native to the original Switch, so the title doesn't fit Nintendo's restrictions for GameShare . It's unlikely that EA would publish a mistake on its website, and even more unlikely that Nintendo would do so. It's possible that the Hazelight Studios-developed game either uses some sort of workaround or is a special exemption from Nintendo's GameShare requirements, or perhaps Nintendo's wording has been misinterpreted.

The Price For The Switch 2 Port Of One Of 2025's Best Games Has Been Revealed
Nintendo Switch 2 is set to see a flurry of games around its release, and one of 2025’s best is ing the lineup, with its price now revealed.
Either way, it should be quite easy for owners of any Switch console to play the game together, as long as one of them has a copy of the Switch 2 game. In the Creator's Voice video for Split Fiction ed by Nintendo of America, the Hazelight developers did not mention for the original Switch for GameShare, but they did talk about how the Switch 2's features are well-suited for their co-op game.
Split Fiction will also GameChat, with a greater focus on the voice functionality and sharing live video — and there's no need to share a low frame rate feed of your gameplay, since the game already requires split screen.
GameShare Has Loads Of Opportunities For Switch 2
And Split Fiction Is A Great Fit For The Feature
GameShare is one of the more promising features of the Nintendo Switch 2, in a way harkening back to the days of Play for the Nintendo DS. There are major technical differences between the two features, but the idea of giving friends access to games that they don't own, even at a limited capacity, is at the core of them.
With many of Hazelight's games using a "Friend " to allow for game sharing, with Split Fiction even allowing for cross-platform play, Split Fiction is a match made in heaven for the Nintendo Switch 2. It would be unsurprising if Hazelight's next title makes it to the Switch 2, and if any game is going to go beyond Nintendo's own guidelines for GameShare, it makes sense that Split Fiction would be that game.
