The movie is different from its predecessors as it’s a live-action computer-animated adventure instead of traditional animation, and it also went through a different post-production process as its release date was delayed a couple of times, and when it seemed it was finally going to be released, the coronavirus pandemic put an end to those plans. SpongeBob Movie: Sponge On The Run Is Available On Netflix Internationally
Netflix acquired international distribution rights to The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run, releasing the movie on November 5, 2020, so those residing in the UK, México, Spain , Italy, Brasil, and Australia can now enjoy the movie. The deal doesn’t include the US, Canada, and China, though Canada was able to give it a theatrical release in August 2020.
SpongeBob Movie: Sponge On The Run Won’t Release In The US Until 2021
Unfortunately for SpongeBob SquarePants fans in the US, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run won’t arrive until 2021. As mentioned above, the movie went through various delays even before the coronavirus pandemic. It was originally scheduled to be released on February 9, 2019, and was later pushed back to August before being delayed to July 31, 2020. After that, and now as a result of the pandemic, Sponge on the Run went through four more delays before its theatrical release was canceled, with the exception of its Canadian release in 300 theaters.
SpongeBob Movie: Sponge On The Run Will Release On VOD & CBS: All Access In The US
SpongeBob SquarePants fans will have to wait until 2021 to watch Sponge on the Run, but they won’t find it on Netflix. First, the movie will be released on VOD before moving to a stable home in CBS All Access (which will most likely be Paramount+ by then). The platform will also be home to the SpongeBob SquarePants prequel series Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years, originally planned to air on Nickelodeon, so it makes sense that Paramount kept the distribution rights in the US in order to be able to add it to its own streaming services and allow Netflix to share it with the rest of the world. Surely, the release of The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run has been unusual, but the film industry has had to find ways to adapt amidst the pandemic.
