The world of Nicktoons.
SpongeBob SquarePants follows the daily adventures of the title character – a sea sponge that looks like a kitchen sponge – and his best friends Patrick Star and Sandy Cheeks, as well as his neighbor Squidward Tentacles, who SpongeBob considers a friend (but the feeling is not mutual). Over the course of 12 seasons, fans of the series have met all types of characters, including some enemies of not only SpongeBob but other characters as well, such as Squidward, who has one particular rival.
Squilliam Fancyson is an octopus that looks exactly like Squidward except he has a single eyebrow and wears a red and black robe, just to show how rich and elegant he is. But who is Squilliam and what is his deal with Squidward?
SpongeBob SquarePants: Squidward’s Rival Squilliam Fancyson Explained
Squilliam Fancyson III’s first appearance was in season two’s episode “Krusty Krab into one), and “House Fancy”, where Squidward claims his house is better and more luxurious than Squilliam’s.
As you can see, the dynamic between Squidward and Squilliam is rooted in jealousy and competition, as Squilliam has succeeded in everything Squidward has dreamed of. These two met in high school band class and quickly became rivals, quite possibly because they both play the clarinet. Squilliam is very rich, and aside from having a five-star restaurant and a band, he owns a four-story mansion with an elevator with a built-in hot tub, a golden toilet, and many other things. He’s very full of himself, considering himself superior to everyone else, mostly Squidward. He’s rude, selfish, arrogant, and takes pleasure in undervaluing and mocking others.
Squilliam last formal appearance was in season 7‘s episode “Keep Bikini Bottom Beautiful”, though he appeared in “Back to the Past”, which is an alternate timeline, and “Code Yellow” where he had a brief cameo appearance. Although in many aspects Squilliam was Squidward’s opposite, he was also mirroring his biggest rival, as they have similar traits and personalities, but they react differently to the events and characters life throws at them.
