somewhat similar to Heardle, a popular game that played a few seconds of a song's intro, after which s had six guesses to figure out the artist and song name. Spotify acquired Heardle in 2022, and announced that the game would remain free for everyone. Unfortunately, the streaming platform made the decision to shut down Heardle in May 2023.

Spotle is a daily guessing game like Wordle, which means s can look forward to a new Spotle every day. Unlike Heardle, s only need to guess an artist, and there's no song preview played as a hint. Instead, s have to make random guesses to figure out the correct artist. The game is based on Spotify's top artists, which means s don't need to worry about having to guess obscure artists and bands. Additionally, s get 10 guesses, which is more than what Heardle offered, but understandable since the artist is more difficult to guess without a song preview. To play the game, s will need to go to the Spotle website and enter their guesses.

Understanding Spotle Hints

Spotle Spotify game hints

There are six attributes to a Spotle guess, and these might turn green or yellow, depending on a 's answer. The attributes include the Debut Album (year), Group Size, Listener Rank, Gender, Genre, and Nationality. For example, if the Spotle answer of the day is Taylor Swift and a 's guess is Dua Lipa, the gender card will turn green and say 'Female.' The Group Size will also turn green and say '1,' since Taylor Swift and Dua Lipa are both independent artists. The attributes that don't match, such as nationality and debut album, will remain gray.

Spotle says that the Debut Album card will turn yellow if it's within five years of the correct artist's debut album. If there's a down arrow next to the number, it means the artist's album came out earlier, while if there's an up arrow, it means the album came out later. The Group Size metric indicates how many there are. For example, if a guesses Red Hot Chili Peppers, the group size will be 4. The gender will say 'Mixed' if the group consists of both men and women.

The Listener Rank is the artist's rank on Spotify by streams. An up arrow indicates the correct artist is more popular than the guessed artist, while a down arrow indicates they are less popular. If the Listener Rank is yellow, it means the guessed artist ranks within 50 of the correct artist. The genres displayed by Spotle consist of Rock, Pop, Hip Hop, Country, Alternative, R&B, K-Pop, Latin, Classical, Jazz, Metal, and Electronic. And finally, there's Nationality. Here too, the Nationality card will turn yellow if the guessed artist's nationality is on the same continent as the correct artist.

How To Play Spotle

With the hints out of the way, it's time to play. The very first guess should reveal some hints. If a is lucky, they may be able to get green hints for Nationality, Gender, and Group Size. These cards, along with Genre, provide the best hints for the day's answer. The Listening Rank isn't the most useful parameter, but the Debut Album can be, if the guess isn't too far off. Spotle does require a fair amount of music knowledge, and unfortunately, it doesn't reveal the day's answer even if the runs out of guesses. However, it is possible to see the previous day's answer by tapping on 'yesterdays' in the top right corner of the Spotle website.

If a guesses the right artist, the Spotle website will display a scorecard at the top of the screen and play a track by the artist. s now have the option to share their result by tapping 'Share Result' and choosing the app they want to share their result too. Like Wordle, the score is displayed as a series of squares. If a guessed the answer in four tries, it will display four squares, and so on. Spotle also has a 'Create Game' feature that lets s enter an artist name and create a custom Spotle game that can be shared with their friends.
