As plenty of new games roll in from Sony's Final Fantasy XV's development, and consists of various employees who also worked on the JRPG.

Luminous Productions is one of the 12 business divisions that Square Enix had at the time of FFXV's development. After the release of Final Fantasy XV, Luminous Productions was given the explicit purpose to create new AAA IPs. Now with both Final Fantasy XV and the Final Fantasy VII remake in the rearview, Luminous has drawn back the curtain on its first game: Project Athia.

The reveal came in the form of a brief trailer during the Sony Future of Gaming event, which included cinematics and some glimpses of game play. Neither a release date or a price point were announced, but the trailer did show the currently unnamed main protagonist using superhuman powers to summon giant roots out of the ground, flying, and combating giant monsters. The reveal also made it clear that Project Athia was a PlayStation 5 exclusive, stating that the new IP was "designed for the PlayStation 5."

Per a Square Enix presser, Project Athia appears to be an Action-RPG type of game, akin to had a major announcement of their own) with, "a thrilling story-led, action-packed adventure which can be twisted, tempestuous and forbidding." The world that the game is set in looked visually stunning on the Playstation 5's hardware, and the different shading and lighting used show the amazing detail that the next gen consoles can bring players, from realistic sunsets to foggy forests.

Square Enix has found success Final Fantasy as of late, with the Final Fantasy VII Remake Final Fantasy XVI, the addition of Project Athia is positioning Square Enix to play a major role with the PlayStation 5 when it releases later this year.
