The Squid Game season 3 trailer has dashed my hopes that my favorite characters will survive, but it could mean for the perfect, most satisfying ending. Unlike season 1, season 2 ended with a rather large number of characters still alive. Gi-hun's second stint in the games will continue into Netflix's next installment, and a handful of his fellow players will be competing with him. While I had hopes that Gi-hun would successfully take down the terrible contest, thus allowing several characters to live, the season 3 trailer contains a subtle hint that Squid Game is taking things in a different direction.

trailer for Squid Game season 3 has provided some early answers. Survivors like Gi-hun, Hyun-ju, Dae-ho, Yong-sik, Geum-ja, and Myung-gi will be thrown right back into the competition, but there may be a major twist.

The Squid Game Season 3 Trailer Hints That Jun-Hee's Baby Will Be Born

We Hear A Baby Crying In The Newest Squid Game Trailer

In addition to confirming that the surviving Squid Game season 2 will have to continue competing, the trailer for season 3 teased that Jun-hee's baby will be born in the coming episodes. Just as the trailer came to an end, a baby could be heard crying in the background. Of course, we can't know precisely what this means. The crying could be a reference to guard No-eul's baby, whom she was forced to leave behind in North Korea. However, given how everything has played out in the first two seasons of Squid Game, I would seriously bet Player 222 will give birth in the coming episodes.

A Baby May Inspire Squid Game's Players To Sacrifice Themselves

This May Be Just The Thing To Upset The Games

It's interesting to consider what a baby would mean for the brutal competition of Squid Game. The Front Man clearly allowed a pregnant woman to compete, so my guess is that they would have no plans of changing course if the infant were born. The chance to vote and leave the games will likely be revoked in Squid Game season 3 following the uprising, so Jun-hee would surely be required to continue competing. From there, the other players would have to decide what is more important to them, the prize money, or the life of this infant child.

Squid Game season 3 will begin streaming on Netflix on June 27, 2025.

Squid Game has proven time and time again that its characters will choose money over life. Now, season 3 may force them to confront whether they would choose to doom a mother and her baby for the sake of financial freedom. In season 2, we got to know a few of these players and know they have plenty of comion. They've already made some selfish choices for the sake of money, but they have learned some hard lessons as a result. Though I would love to see these characters survive, my guess is that they will all ultimately sacrifice themselves so Jun-hee and her baby can win and go home.

Gi-Hun & The Others Sacrificing Their Lives Would Pay Off Squid Game's Overarching Theme

Gi-Hun Can Prove Oh Il-Nam Wrong One Last Time

Oh-Il-Nam-Death

If the other players in Squid Game season 3 prioritize Jun-hee and her baby's life over their own (or their financial freedom), then it would be a definitive answer against Oh Il-nam's belief from season 1. This old man was the creator of Squid Game's central competition, who chose to as Player 001 before his terminal cancer claimed his life.

If Squid Game season 3 sees the players abandon their own self-interest for the sake of a baby, it would be like a larger-scale version of Il-nam and Gi-hun's bet.

In Il-nam's final moments, he made a bet with Gi-hun that no one would stop and help a dying homeless man. It was a bet meant to prove that his games reflected the true nature of humanity. However, Oh Il-nam lost. When Gi-hun saw that someone had, in fact, stopped to save the homeless man, he became determined to put a stop to Oh Il-nam's games.

If Squid Game season 3 sees the players abandon their own self-interest for the sake of a baby, it would be like a larger-scale version of Il-nam and Gi-hun's bet. There's no doubt that humanity is messy and, often, selfish. However, Squid Game season 3 can demonstrate the goodness that still exists within the ugliness. If it means the story and themes of this series are brought full circle, I can accept all my favorite characters dying in the end.
