The film received a 71% on Rotten Tomatoes and features a cast of new actors.
One of these actors new to the story is Stanley Tucci. Beauty And The Beast: Ranking The 8 Best Actresses Who Played Beauty
Now that H.E.R. has been tapped to play Belle in ABC's Beauty and the Beast, these were the best portrayals of Beauty in various adaptations.
Stanley Tucci Played New Character Cadenza In Beauty And The Beast
Stanley Tucci plays Cadenza in Beauty and the Beast, a character newly created for the live-action remake. Cadenza was once a talented but eccentric composer, who was dubbed "a neurotic maestro". The enchantress's curse turned Cadenza into a harpsichord, granting him at least the ability to play music even if he can't write it. Cadenza used to play alongside his wife, Madame de Garderobe (Audra McDonald), an opera singer, but when she is transformed into a wardrobe, she is stuck upstairs in the castle and the two remain separated for years.
Cadenza begins to suffer "cavities" after years of disuse and his keys start falling out, but with the arrival of Belle, he is inspired again to play in the hopes that he can help make Belle and the Beast fall in love. When the mob attacks, Cadenza is reunited with his wife as they fight off the attackers, the harpsichord shooting its remaining keys like a BB gun. When everyone is transformed back, Cadenza briefly flashes a toothless grin before revealing his smile has been fully restored.
Tucci has become known in his later years for his interest in food and travel, particularly regarding his reality series Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy, so to have him voice a character with an interest in the finer European arts is a wink to his real-life persona. His story with Madam de Garderobe also adds something the animated film doesn't have, which is a romantic relationship between a pair of transformed objects. These characters show how the Beast's actions have affected others' lives and make for higher stakes when it appears they will not be turned back into humans.
Tucci Briefly Forgot He Worked With Emma Thompson In Beauty And The Beast
Emma Thompson also appears in Beauty and the Beast as Mrs. Potts, the head of housekeeping. Thompson, like Angela Lansbury before, sings the Oscar-winning title song. However, Tucci completely forgot they both voiced characters in this film. In an interview with Lorraine, Tucci speaks about acting with Thompson in the film The Children Act. Tucci says he's never worked with Thompson, before quickly correcting himself, as he re Beauty and the Beast. He and the host try to move on but begin to make each other laugh too much, turning a standard press interview into something much more charming.
