Star-Lord may have been the only character in Avengers: Infinity War who angered fans more than Thanos, the destroyer of fifty percent of life in the universe. Why? Well, because he sort of allowed Thanos to do his thing by getting distracted about the loss of his girlfriend and bungling Tony, Strange, and Peter's plan to get the Infinity Gauntlet.

But, that's in character for Peter Quill. Comic book fans may not have actually been terribly surprised because Quill has a history of making bad decisions before saving the world in the end. Here are just a few heroes who can deal with that and a few who find this character flaw either disastrous or annoying.

Drax - Love

Kratos Dave Bautista Drax

Drax may annoy Star-Lord in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it's clear that he also appreciates being a member of The Guardians of the Galaxy and getting to work out avenging the loss of his family. In the comics Drax is also a major player in The Guardians team, playing a key role in their relaunch in 2008. He even worked with Quill before the new Guardians were formed during the Annihilation storyline in the Star-Lord comics of 2015. Drax needs a team to be really successful and Star-Lord is the one who helps the Destroyer form a new family.

Despise - Spider-Man

Disney plus Spider-Man

Spider-Man, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, likes working with almost everyone. He's an awestruck fanboy at the airport in in Captain America: Civil War. Yet, Peter Parker is not fond of Star-Lord. In the Marvel films Peter turns to dust after Quill goes rogue and loses them the first fight against Thanos. In the comics Quill actually chases down Spider-Man, believing he's stolen a weapon (not a very Spider-Man like thing to do). Obviously, Quill doesn't know Parker very well, and Spider-Man has far more trustworthy allies to work with.

Love - Kitty Pryde

X-Men Kitty Pryde Mutant Leader

Kitty Pryde, the young X-Man who can walk through walls, may not have met Star-Lord in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but she certainly has in the comics. She and Star-Lord have been an item for quite a bit longer on paper than Star-Lord and Gamora have. In June of 2015, Kitty Pryde actually took on the mantle of Star-Lord herself in the comics for a time. She obviously enjoys Star-Lord's character as well as the position.

Despise - Iron Man

Iron Man v Thanos

When Quill and Tony Stark meet in Avengers: Infinity War Star-Lord's initial idea is to insult Tony's intelligence. "Let's talk about this plan of yours. I think it's good, except it sucks. So let me do the plan, and that way it might be really good."

Not a great start. In the comics, Tony actually works with the Guardians, taking some time in space with them. He enjoys their technology, getting out and seeing the universe. But he's also very jealous of the opportunities they have, while he is usually stuck on earth.

Love - Rocket

Baby Groot on Rocket Racoon's shoulder in Guardians of the Galaxy Movie

Rocket Raccoon is a member of the Guardians and he has to work with Star-Lord. In the relaunch of the comic, he's one of the first to up. In the comics of 2007 Quill, per his bad habits, messed up and sort of infected the Kree with the Techno-Organic virus. He ended up recruiting a team (including Rocket) to help fix his mess, and despite their bickering Rocket stands by him. Add that to the continued love/hate that, really, Rocket seems to enjoy in the MCU, and they are quite the pair. “Star-Munch” and "stupid raccoon" may amuse us, even as they only sort of get along.

Despise - War Machine

Avengers Endgame Age of Ultron War Machine Rhodey

War Machine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has no respect for Star-Lord. In fact, he and Nebula are sent back to get the Power Stone from Peter Quill. He knocks out a dancing Star-Lord on-screen with no regrets. Add to that the fact that Star-Lord takes Rhodey's best friend on a cross-galaxy jaunt for a relatively long period. It's hard for him to appreciate that, either.

Love - Gamora

GAMORA - 10 MCU CHARACTERS THAT DESERVE REDEMPTION

Gamora is the reason, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, that Star-Lord ruins everything with Thanos. They obviously love one another and love working together, or the Guardians of the Galaxy never succeed. In the comics, the duo's relationship is fairly new. Their love was not canon in the pages of the Marvel until 2019. But they are a couple now, and it's clear they like their jobs and one another. That's something movie fans and comic fans can all agree on.

Despise - Doctor Strange

Stephen Strange holding magical energy in his hands in the MCU Doctor Strange film

Like Stark, Doctor Strange isn't very keen on working with Star-Lord in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Quill doesn't make a great impression on the MIT graduate and the real-life surgeon. But it's not only on-screen that the duo struggles to appreciate one another.

In the comics, an alternate reality actually has Doctor strange meet the Guardians as the Ancient One. This meeting, though, leads to Strange's death, at the hands of Dormammu, so there's little for him to enjoy while he works with Quill.

 Love - Mantis

Mantis

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Mantis is a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy. She may spend most of her time with Drax, but she's just glad to be on a team, and that's Star-Lord's team. In the comics, she's a Kree prisoner who actually volunteers to be on a team led by Star-Lord (per a storyline in 2007). During the Secret Invasionstoryline Mantis even agrees to use her mental powers to force others to the Guardians of the Galaxy team. That's a lot to commit to if you don't like the leader you're working under.

Despise- Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel

Sure, Captain Marvel and Star-Lord have not spent a whole lot of time getting to know one another on-screen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but they have worked together in the pages of Marvel comics before. Why would the two space fairing heroes not get along? Well, in a 2018 storyline Captain Marvel was, unfortunately, forced to fight against Star-Lord. He wasn't really himself, he was being controlled by the Reality Stone and was sort of evil, going by the name of "Starkiller," but it certainly left a harsh taste in Danvers' mouth.
