Warning: contains spoilers for Star Trek #12!

Star Trek has confirmed the sinister endgame of the evil android Lore: to become a god. The Star Trek universe is reeling from the recently concluded god war, in which the clone Klingon Emperor Kahless led an uprising against the galaxy’s god-like beings. Lore was recruited to help stop Kahless, but unsurprisingly escaped to parts unknown, and now, as seen in Star Trek #12 he has returned to flip the script on Kahless’ mission.

Star Trek #12 is written by Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly and drawn by Angel Unzueta. Kahless’ attempted coup has been put down, and Chancellor Martok is restoring order on the Klingon home world. Kahless fled, effectively killing the movement. A number of Red Path cultists, who fanatically followed Kahless, are left adrift, desperate for approval from their messiah. They receive an incoming transmission from a ship on the Emperor’s channel. They decide not to respond, but the other ship takes over their systems. It is revealed to be the work of Lore, who tells them rather than fight the divine they need to it.

Lore is An Insidious Presence in the Star Trek Universe

Star Trek Lore Godhood

Lore is the dark mirror of his brother Data. Both were created by the famous cyberneticist Noonian Soong, but Lore came first. Soong gave Lore an emotion chip, but it led the android to view himself as above humanity, and he became a villain. Lore’s legacy in the Star Trek franchise is one of evil and violence. Lore is a mass murderer and a scourge upon the galaxy. Lore was recruited by Spock and Worf to help stop the god war. He played nice at first, but quickly showed his true colors, escaping from the Defiant after an encounter with a god-like AI.

Lore Has Led Armies Before

Lore unveils Data as his ally amongst Borg soldiers.

This is not the first time Lore has attempted to raise an army. In Star Trek: The Next Generation’s sixth season finale, “The Descent,” Lore led a group of ex-Borg drones on a campaign of terror across the Alpha Quadrant, and the crew of the Enterprise beat him only by the skin of their teeth. The incident showed that Lore could rally dissidents and malcontents to his cause, giving him an even darker and more sinister layer, and is the perfect setup for his new goal: to become a god.

Lore’s ambitions seem to have grown, leading fans to wonder what has made him turn his attention to godhood. It seems like a natural outgrowth of his malicious desires, but Lore's encounter with the god-like AI in Star Trek: Defiant #5 may have had something to do with it. Lore could be an emissary for this new god, or more frighteningly, he could have taken control of it for himself. Lore is seeking recruits among Kahlees’ former cult , who are ripe to hear a new and even darker message. Lore’s dark endgame to become a god in the Star Trek universe is his most twisted plan yet.
