A year after Star Trek: Lower Decks revealed their season 3 crossover episode with Star Trek: Deep Space Nine at San Diego Comic-Con, Lower Decks' season 4 trailer surprisingly reveals even more DS9 crossovers to come. Unveiled during the Star Trek Universe at San Diego Comic-Con, the Lower Decks season 4 trailer revealed what's next for Ensigns Beckett Mariner (Tawny Newsome) and Bradward Boimler (Jack Quaid) after their crossover into Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. The trailer shows Mariner in a barroom brawl with Orions and teases potential promotions for some of the Lower Deckers. However, there's also a sneaky tease for another DS9 crossover following season 3's acclaimed crossover episode.

The trailer for Star Trek: Lower Decks season 4 reveals that the USS Cerritos will travel to Ferenginar in an episode. While on the rainy Ferengi homeworld, they meet with Grand Nagus Rom (Max Grodénchik) and his Bajoran wife, Leeta (Chase Masterson), although at this stage it's unconfirmed if the actors will be reprising their roles from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

Leeta and Rom meet Captain Carol Freeman in Star Trek: Lower Decks season 4

While DS9 had several episodes set on the Ferengi home world, they never depicted a Starfleet delegation making the trip, something that Lower Decks is finally putting right. However, this isn't the only reference to DS9 contained within the trailer for Star Trek: Lower Decks season 4, which you can watch below:

Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 4 Has Even More DS9 References

Rutherford moves along home in a callback to Star Trek: DS9

Along with Leeta and Rom, there is also a reference to the much-maligned Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "Move Along Home". In the episode, a visiting delegation of Wadi from the Gamma Quadrant turned Commander Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks) and his senior staff into game pieces. Toward the end of the Star Trek: Lower Decks season 4 trailer, Rutherford appears to be trapped inside one of the Wadi's games. Arriving at a doorway, a little girl answers and invites Rutherford to "move along home", much to his chagrin.

Interestingly, Rutherford is holding a Betazoid gift box, a pre-wedding "bonding" gift from Star Trek: The Next Generation. In the TNG episode "The Bonding", in which the box appeared, it was voiced by the actor Armin Shimerman. Of course, Shimerman went on to play Quark, one of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's Ferengi characters, making it another nod to DS9. Following up the much acclaimed DS9 crossover episode in Lower Decks season 3 is a smart move, and it's clear that Mike McMahan's show is exploring Star Trek canon even further when Star Trek: Lower Decks season 4 premieres with 2 episodes on September 7th.
