- Aaron J. Waltke explains what happened in the Mirror Universe after the Terran rebels defeated the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance.
Star Trek's Mirror Universe is back in Star Trek timeline, the furthest point previously seen of the Mirror Universe was in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine season 7. In the Mirror Universe's 24th century, the rebels of the former Terran Empire defeated Regent Worf (Michael Dorn) and the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance.
Star Trek: Prodigy's Aaron J. Waltke ed Screen Rant for an exclusive interview diving into season 2's Star Trek lore. Captain Chakotay (Robert Beltran) and the young heroes of the USS Protostar inadvertently visited the Mirror Universe in Star Trek: Prodigy season 2, episode 14, "Cracked Mirror", which revealed the Mirror iral Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) in command of the Terran Armada's ISS Voyager-A. Since Star Trek: Prodigy takes place about 10 years after Star Trek: Deep Space Nine ended, Waltke explained what happened in the Mirror Universe after the Terran Empire took back power. Read Aaron's quote below:
I was well aware of where we left off with the Mirror Universe in that they initially were on their heels being attacked by the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance. But then, the last we saw of them in Deep Space Nine, they had successfully kind of repelled that advance, and it seemed like they were finally going to be able to rebuild their empire.
So in my mind, it seems unlikely that they would all just be good guys now. Especially because them making major reforms to their society with Mirror Spock ultimately, as stated in DS9, is what allowed their society to collapse and become vulnerable to the other outside forces. So we thought at least some faction would probably be like, ‘We have to go back to the old ways’. And that's how we get the classic sleeveless shirts and the knives they have attached to their little holsters.
And I think when you talk about the Mirror Universe, I know a lot of people think it's overdone, but I'm like you, I love it. And there's a reason that it's only in for like eight minutes of the episode, but who didn't want to see that? Come on. And so, we thought that at least some of the Mirror Universe might say, ‘Let's return to our old ways and form the new Terran Armada.’ And that's where we get to Mirror Janeway, which was loosely inspired in some aspects by the Mirror Janeway we see in Star Trek Online, but we added our own touches too.

What Star Trek: Prodigy's Mirror Universe Update Means
Here's how it lines up with Star Trek: Discovery
Star Trek: Prodigy's journey to the Mirror Universe is the first time the 24th-century events of the alternate reality have been touched on since the end of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine 25 years ago. Star Trek: Discovery's many episodes set in the Mirror Universe happen in the mid-23rd century, before the events of Star Trek: The Original Series' "Mirror, Mirror", which introduced the parallel timeline. The appearance of the ISS Enterprise in Star Trek: Discovery season 5 offered a glimpse into more Mirror Universe history, but that information describes events that happened decades before the Mirror Universe seen in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

Star Trek: Prodigy |
Thanks to Star Trek: Prodigy, audiences now know that after the Terran rebels defeated the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance, they re-embraced "the old ways" of the 23rd century when the Terran Empire was at its height. Along with restoring the Terran Empire's iconography and technology like the Agonizer, the new Terran Armada resumed its status as a force of fear and terror in the galaxy. Going by the Mirror iral Janeway and Captain Chakotay aboard the ISS Voyager-A, the Terrans have regained much of their strength as the 24th century nears its end. However, as Star Trek: Discovery revealed, eventually, the Mirror Universe and Prime Universe timelines will branch apart, making crossovers impossible.
