Warning: SPOILERS for Star Trek #4
In involving Captain Kirk, Spock and Dr. McCoy, but he has a massive fan following all the same. In Star Trek #4, Scotty finally goes up against Godlike beings and lives up to his classic nickname: the Miracle Worker.
Scotty's reputation was legendary even before he served on the Enterprise, but his tour of duty on the starship made him a household name. He is perhaps best known for accomplishing tasks in half the time allotted by his captain, saving the ship and the crew at the last possible second. This phenomenon is explained in the TNG episode Relics, in which Scotty tells chief engineer Geordi that he always pads his estimates regarding tasks; this means he can speed up the process easily if the situation calls for an engineering miracle.
In Star Trek #4, written by Collin Kelly & Jackson Lanzing with art by Ramon Rosanas & Oleg Chudakov, Scotty is part of the USS Theseus. The ship's crew hails from practically every era of Star Trek: Tom Paris from Voyager, Doctor Crusher from The Next Generation, Benjamin Sisko from Deep Space Nine, and Scotty from the Original Series. When Q threatened the ship, Scotty found a way to detect and escape him; in the current issue, he even goes up against the inhabitants of the God City of T'Kon, an empire that even rivals the other Godlike beings in the franchise.
Scotty Becomes A Literal Miracle Worker
Scotty encountered his fair share of Godlike entities during the Original Series; while he never met a being like Q, he did encounter Apollo, Trelane (whom many fans speculate was a member of the Q Continuum) and V'Ger in Star Trek: The Motion Picture. The fact that he kept his composure during these and other encounters suggest that Scotty is entirely unafraid to square up against demigods and Gods themselves - and now he's proved they can be defeated by science.
The adventure on the Theseus began with benevolent Godlike beings (the Prophets) sending Benjamin Sisko back to the terrestrial realm of the universe. Now back in linear time, Sisko must embark on an adventure to fight Gods who may not be that benevolent. In that case, it's a good thing that Scotty is onboard the ship, now a very literal Miracle Worker.
