Starfleet Academy gets a heavy-hitter series lead

Holly Hunter is a major casting coup for Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. Hunter won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in The Piano, and she received three additional Oscar nominations for her performances in Broadcast News, The Firm, and Thirteen. Among Hunter's memorial film credits are Raising Arizona and O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Crash directed by Star Trek: Discovery's David Cronenberg, Home for the Holidays, The Big Sick, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and The Incredibles.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy will film on the biggest sets ever constructed for Star Trek, and counts Star Trek: Lower Decks' Tawny Newsome as one of the show's writers.

Holly Hunter won Emmy Awards for Best Actress for her roles in The Positively True Adventures of the Alleged Texas Cheerleader-Murdering Mom and Roe vs. Wade, and she garnered Emmy nominations for her starring role in Saving Grace. She also had a guest-starring role in Succession. Like her fellow Best Actress Academy Award winner, Michelle Yeoh, who leads the Paramount+ streaming movie Star Trek: Section 31, Hunter lends her acclaimed talent and versatility to Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.
