This particular Enterprise crew indeed seems to be catching on with Star Trek fans as Strange New Worlds has just achieved a significant milestone in measuring streaming success. As reported by Strange New Worlds ended a seven-week run at the top by Taika Waititi’s HBO Max pirate show Our Flag Means Death. This big news was indeed not lost on Pike actor Mount, who took to Twitter to celebrate Strange New Worlds’ accomplishment while humbly throwing some praise in the direction of the show's hard-working crew and writers. Measuring the popularity of TV shows of course used to be a relatively straight-forward endeavor thanks to Nielsen and its famous ratings. But in a world where streaming services compete with traditional broadcast and cable networks, getting a handle on the popularity of various shows has become a much more murky and complicated process. Indeed, streamers like Netflix have traditionally hidden the numbers for a lot of their content, only trumpeting big success stories like Stranger Things. But thanks to Parrot Analytics, there is at least some independent measuring of streaming popularity going on, and their numbers say Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is the most in-demand new show out there.

Of course even with Parrot Analytics doing their work, there is bound to be skepticism about the ability of anyone to truly measure the success or failure of various streaming shows and movies. But if Parrot Analytics has it right, it seems Paramount+ has a genuine hit on their hands with Strange New Worlds. And surely the streamer would love to amplify news of the new show’s success after the cloud of negativity that came to surround the recently-aired after shows like Picard and Discovery failed to please older fans. It remains to be seen what ultimate judgment is leveled against Star Trek: Strange New Worlds by the definers of “real Trek,” but the numbers at least say that the show is off to a strong overall start.
