Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 - Cast, Story, Trailer & Everything We Know
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2 ended with an epic cliffhanger and here's everything known about when it will be resolved in season 3.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2's Musical Was A Big Win
Screen Rant: Last year, you guys were on strike, and you couldn't talk about all of the incredible things that were going on, especially in the back end of season two. So let's start with asking each of you: What's one thing you love about season two that you couldn't brag about a year ago? But now you can.
Ethan Peck: Rebecca?
Rebecca Romijn: Oh, not to beat the dead horse, but that musical episode was something I just wanted to shout about from the mountaintops. We were so proud of it. And it was really hard to not get to talk about it. We shot it towards the end of the season. It was episode nine. We were tired. But it just put fresh wind behind our wings. And we just spent all weekends, like we would spend Saturdays and Sundays. and work out the choreography and record the songs in the studio. And we're so excited about it.
Ethan Peck: Yeah, it was unfortunate because we couldn't promote it when it was coming out because we've worked so, so hard. Everybody did.
Akiva Goldsman: Do you any of it?
Rebecca Romjin: [sings] All systems stable.
Ethan Peck: [sings] All systems stable. That's all I . We've taken a lot of information. It just goes right out the back.
Singing Is Still Part Of Strange New Worlds Season 3
Screen Rant: You guys wrapped filming season 3 back in May. When you were filming season 3, was there still singing going on between takes?
Rebecca Romijn: There's always singing.
Ethan Peck: Between the takes? Uh, Celia.
Rebecca Romijn: As long as Celia is around, yeah.
Ethan Peck: I used to share a trailer with her, and she'd be singing all the time. It was kind of wonderful, actually. Then she discovered I could hear her, and then...
Rebecca Romijn: And then no more?
Ethan Peck: And then she became very embarrassed, yeah. I know it was too bad.
Jonathan Frakes' Strange New Worlds' Hollywood Murder Mystery Episode
Screen Rant: Our friend, Jonathan Frakes, who's directing in season 3...
Akiva Goldsman: Oh god, what did he spill?
Screen Rant: Well, he said three words...
Henry Alonso Myers: He told you everything.
Akiva Goldsman: Everything.
Screen Rant: Well, he said three worlds: Hollywood murder mystery.
Akiva Goldsman: Oh dear God!
Henry Alonso Myers: The three words we told him not to say.
Rebecca Romjin: He's not allowed to say that?
Henry Alonso Myers: He'll say whatever he wants.
Akiva Goldsman: No matter what we say.
Screen Rant: But you can't say anything more about that?
Henry Alonso Myers: Those three worlds have been said, so it's now well known that that is a thing that you will experience in season 3.
More Big Swings In Strange New Worlds Season 3
Screen Rant: Well, I look forward to it. It sounds amazing. After what you guys accomplished to great acclaim in season 2, it seems like Strange New Worlds now can do anything. Are you going to put that to the test in season 3? Big swings?
Akiva Goldsman: Yeah, we're always trying big swings. One thing that I can say about Henry and myself, we are real Star Trek fans. And the cast has a deep love of Star Trek. And so we're sort of our own proving ground. If we don't look at each other, and go, 'Oh, God,' then it's not worth doing. But if it's too much, we can sort of push each other back. So it's a really wonderful process. It really is collaborative art. oxymoronic as that sounds. And I think the show really, I think you can see that it gains from this desire to explore strange new genres. See what I did?
Rebecca Romijn: It does, with what you guys have come up with, you just keep pushing the envelope. It feels limitless. We always stick to the mission at hand. It's gotta work within the story. But I can't... I don't know how your brains operate, but it feels like it can be anything.
Henry Alonso Myers: A big part of it is that we spend a lot of time thinking about what can we do to give our actors something to challenge them?. What can we do that makes this interesting and fun and new for them? And then they come in every day and try and do something different, and new, and like that. You just get a different level of interest from folks that you work with by making the job interesting. So we try to do that for ourselves. And then at the end, we stare at [each other] and say, 'Did this make me cry? Did it make me laugh?' Okay. because if it does, then you know what's working.
Will Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Have More Than 10 Episode Seasons?
Screen Rant: Speaking of the show being limitless, I think the only knock against the show is that there's not enough of it. 10 episode seasons are not enough. Will there ever be more than 10 episode seasons?
Akiva Goldsman; No. I mean, not so far, and we’ve tried, in fairness. We, too, have that sense, and most practically represented by the number of cards that are episode cards. At the beginning of each season, we sort of go… It’s sort of like a Friends anthology. Let’s do ‘One Where,’ let’s do ‘The One Where…’ And we always have more cards than 10 by the end. Some of the other shows… Disco was 13… So we sort of batted our eyes and said, ‘Give us more’, and they said, ‘No, you can have less,’ and we’re like, ‘Okay! Ten’s good!'
More Number One In Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
Screen Rant: Rebecca, Una is the best. "Ad Astra Per Aspera" is one of the Star Trek ever. Since we have Akiva and Henry here, I'm gonna bring up something that my friends always say, and other fans always, say. It feels like there's not enough Number One in the show. And we'd love to see more of her, especially exploring her abilities, like her super strength. Tossing people around. Things like that.
Rebecca Romijn: Thank you, yeah.
Akiva Goldsman: I really wanted [it]. Henry said no. It's so interesting because I'm always saying, 'There needs to be more Number One.' And Henry said, 'No." Oh, am I mic'ed?
Henry Alonso Myers: We have a lot of people to represent. We wanna make sure everyone gets represented. I can promise you there are things you're gonna see Number One doing this season that you have not seen her do before.
Screen Rant: That's super exciting.
Akiva Goldsman: You're good at that.
Ethan Peck On Playing Human Spock In Strange New Worlds Season 2
Screen Rant: Ethan, I really loved you playing human in season 2.
Ethan Peck: Thanks.
Screen Rant: Tell me about that scene when you had to eat everything.
Ethan Peck: All the bacon?
Screen Rant: Oh yeah. Bacon, and everything else you were shoving in your mouth.
Ethan Peck: Well, let's say I didn't eat breakfast that morning. Or I specifically requested no bacon. And I had enough bacon for about the week, so yeah.
Rebecca Romijn: You got sick from that.
Ethan Peck: I was a little uneasy for the rest of the day, yeah.
Spock & Chapel's Romance Continuing In Strange New Worlds Season 3
Screen Rant: Spock's love life is of great interest to me and to many people. In season 3, it sounds like there's another rooster in the hen house. Dr. Roger Korby has been cast. I believe that's been announced. What can you tell us about Spock, Chapel, and now Korby in season 3?
Ethan Peck: It's gonna be pretty interesting. And Cillian O'Sullivan, who plays Korby, is terrific. And he and I, as actors, have great chemistry, so I'm very excited for people to see that.
Will Sybok Return To Strange New Worlds In Season 3?
Screen Rant: Henry and Akiva, I'm gonna drop a word, and just say whatever comes to mind in relation to Ethan and Spock: Sybok.
Ethan Peck: Whoa.
Akiva Goldsman: Henry desperately wants him to be on the show, in many words.
Screen Rant: Well, so do I.
Henry Alonso Myers: Uh...
Akiva Goldsman: How did you get so grown up? Here, I'll help. Henry really wants him to be on the show.
Henry Alonso Myers: I do want him to be on the show very much. Uh... [everyone laughs]
Ethan Peck: I don't even know what you're thinking.
Henry Alonso Myers: Oh. Ah.
Screen Rant: To be continued?
Henry Alonso Myers: To be continued.
Spock Meeting Kirk In Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2
Screen Rant: In season 2, Uhura introduced Spock to Kirk, and it was such a great moment. And it was also the total opposite of the J.J. Abrams movie, with a lot less of Spock and Kirk punching each other. You guys just sat down and had a drink together. Tell me about how you guys decided to write that iconic moment, and also playing it with Paul Wesley and Celia.
Ethan Peck: I'm going first? So playing it, it's so funny because Paul was off camera to me. He said, "This is a big deal. This is a great moment." I was like, "No. Don't go there. Don't think about that because it's just two people meeting." Right? So I really tried to approach it from that perspective. But it was, in retrospect, very, very exciting. So what was it like to write?
Henry Alonso Myers: Honestly, that was actually the same approach that we brought to it, which is that these people don't know who they're going to be. We know who they're going to be as viewers, but they shouldn't behave that way. They shouldn't look at each other in any way that changes their relationship. This is the beginning of that. So we wanted to treat it like it's something real.
Ethan Peck: It's like platonic love at first sight. A little bit of that, I think, occurred.
Screen Rant: And you do get the sense that... you feel their fascination with each other. They're very interested in each other.
Ethan Peck: Yes.
