  • Seven of Nine had a significant role in Star Trek: Picard, embracing her destiny in Starfleet and eventually becoming Captain of the USS Enterprise-G.

Several key figures from Star Trek: Voyager have returned to the Star Trek franchise in recent years, and here's how each character has reappeared. Due to the nature of Star Trek's shared universe, characters from across the franchise have regularly interacted with each other since the heyday of the 1990s. Although there's not an explicit Voyager sequel in the sense of Star Trek: Picard's continuation of the stories of the Enterprise-D crew, there has been a surprising amount of updates on many of the starship's former crew .

Rather than a Picard-style show focusing on the later life of Vice iral Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew), there is Star Trek: Prodigy which, as well as being a Trek show aimed at a younger audience is also a stealth sequel to Star Trek: Voyager. Prodigy season 1 returned to the Delta Quadrant and introduced a mysterious new Starfleet mission involving the experimental starship the USS Protostar, the fastest in the fleet. Due to the nature of the mission, Starfleet requires officers with extensive experience in the Delta Quadrant, thereby continuing the story of the Voyager crew. However, Prodigy isn't the only Star Trek show to feature appearances by former Voyager characters.

Star Trek: Prodigy's young alien heroes found themselves mentored in the ideals of Starfleet and the United Federation of Planets by Hologram Janeway (Kate Mulgrew). The Protostar's training protocol served as the guide and confidante of Dal R'El (Brett Gray) and his friends until the arrival of the real iral Kathryn Janeway aboard the USS Dauntless. After Hologram Janeway sacrificed herself and the USS Protostar to save the galaxy, iral Janeway argued for the kids' ittance into Starfleet Academy, and she made them her warrant officers in Star Trek: Prodigy season 2.

11 Icheb In Star Trek: Picard

Casey King as Icheb in Star Trek Picard and Jeri Ryan as Seven of Nine in Star Trek Voyager

Icheb (Casey King) is technically the first Star Trek: Voyager character to appear in Star Trek: Picard, or in any new Star Trek series on Paramount+. Tragically, the ex-Borg and close friend of Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) was brutally tortured and harvested for his Borg components in Star Trek: Picard season 1. Icheb died in Seven's arms as she was too late to save him, a heartbreaking ending to their story that began as former Borg in the Delta Quadrant.

10 Seven Of Nine In Star Trek: Picard

Captain Seven of Nine from Star Trek: Picard.

Star Trek: Picard revolutionized Seven of Nine and cemented her as a lead character who put aside her tortured past and embraced her destiny in Starfleet. Seven ed Picard season 1's motley crew as a disenfranchised Fenris Ranger who abandoned Earth because they rejected her for being a former Borg. Seven found new friendships and love with Commander Raffi Musiker (Michelle Hurd) when she came into iral Jean-Luc Picard's (Patrick Stewart) orbit, and he gave Seven a Starfleet field commission. Commander Seven was First Officer of the USS Titan-A in Star Trek: Picard season 3, and her valiant heroism in saving Earth from the Borg earned her a promotion to Captain of the USS Enterprise-G.

9 Chakotay In Star Trek: Prodigy

The central mystery of the USS Protostar in Star Trek: Prodigy season 1 was what happened to Captain Chakotay (Robert Beltran) and how it tied into the Vau N'Akat's plan to destroy Starfleet. The original Captain of the USS Protostar, Chakotay returned to the Delta Quadrant, but a temporal disruption deposited the starship in the 25th century of an alternate timeline. There, Chakotay and the Protostar's crew were taken prisoner by the Vau N'Akat. Chakotay managed to send the Protostar back in time, but he remains a prisoner in the dark future of the planet Solum. Rescuing her dear friend Chakotay is iral Janeway's primary mission in Star Trek: Prodigy season 2.

Star Trek: Voyager's hotshot pilot Lt. Tom Paris (Robert Duncan McNeill) appeared in Star Trek: Lower Decks season 2, episode 3, "We'll Always Have Tom Paris." The former Voyager helmsman's visit to the USS Cerritos excited Ensign Brad Boimler (Jack Quaid), who wants to get his souvenir plate signed by Paris but faces a series of mishaps along the way. After a grueling ordeal, Boimler comes face to face with the Starfleet legend, but due to his crazed temperament, torn clothes, and stained skin, Paris mistakes him for a Kazon and attacks him. The two eventually go for a drink by way of apology for the misunderstanding, but Boimler is weirdly proud to have been given a black eye by Tom Paris.

7 B'Elanna Torres Mentioned In Janeway's iral's Log

B'elanna Torres led construction of the USS Dauntless in Prodigy

As part of Star Trek: Prodigy's social media campaign, Star Trek released iral's logs read by Kate Mulgrew and posted on Instagram. The first log revealed that her former chief of engineering B'elanna Torres (Roxann Dawson) oversaw the design and construction of Janeway's new ship, the USS Dauntless. Janeway revealed that the ship's name and its quantum slipstream drive brought back memories of a similar ship the Voyager crew encountered during their time in the Delta Quadrant.

6 Captain Tuvok In Star Trek: Lower Decks & Star Trek: Picard

Captain Tuvok Changeling

Commander Tuvok makes a surprise appearance in Star Trek: Lower Decks season 3's premiere, which is recounted by Captain Carol Freeman (Dawnn Lewis) as she explains how the Vulcan security officer aided attempts to exonerate her for the destruction of Pakled Planet. The flesh-and-blood Captain Tuvok (Tim Russ) ed Star Trek: Picard season 3, at first played by a Changeling impersonator before the real Vulcan emerged to promote Seven of Nine to Captain of the USS Enterprise-G.

The Voyager ship in Star Trek Lower Decks

The USS Voyager is seen for the first time since Star Trek: Voyager's series finale, "Endgame," in Star Trek: Picard season 3, episode 6, "The Bounty." In the early 25th century, Voyager occupied a place of honor in the Fleet Museum on Athan Prime overseen by Commodore Geordi La Forge (LeVar Burton). However, Voyager was back in action in Star Trek: Lower Decks season 4's premiere, "Twovix," set almost 20 years prior. In spite of Voyager-related mishaps aboard the Intrepid-class starship, the Lower Deckers of the USS Cerritos ensured Voyager made it to Earth to become a museum.

4 Dr. Chaotica, Michael Sullivan & The Clown In Star Trek: Lower Decks

Star Trek Voyager Hologram Villains

Star Trek: Lower Decks season 4's premiere, "Twovix," is a Star Trek: Voyager love-fest, and it features the return of three holographic villains who caused chaos aboard the USS Voyager. Thanks to holographic emitters, Dr. Chaotica, the Clown, and Michael Sullivan manifested, commandeered Voyager, and nearly set it on a collision course with the Borg. Thankfully, Ensign Brad Boimler led the effort to stop Voyager's holo-baddies, earning himself a promotion to Lieutenant, junior grade in the process.

3 Neelix in Star Trek: very Short Treks

Neelix

Although Star Trek: very Short Treks is not part of official Star Trek canon, Neelix did return in the fourth installment, "Holograms All The Way Down," which was the first time Star Trek: Voyager's Talaxian was played by Ethan Phillips since 2001. Neelix was the capper of a series of increasingly strange holodeck scenarios running throughout the various Star Trek series. Whether or not Neelix will return to canon in future Star Trek remains to be seen.
