Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Naomi Ackie's Jannah is a new addition to the Endor system called Kef Bir, where they encounter a group of deserter Stormtroopers. The leader of this ragtag bunch (i.e. the one with a speaking part) is revealed as Jannah, who immediately connects with Finn due to their shared history working for the First Order.

Jannah explains that her entire company refused to gun down civilians during the course of their employer's conquest, managing an escape to this remote moon to hide out in peace. Upon meeting the Resistance, however, Jannah and her friends are dragged back into the fray, convinced to lend a hand in the final battle against Emperor Palpatine and his so-called Final Order. While Ackie's Jannah feels like a fun, if somewhat inconsequential, addition to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, her story may have an implicit extra chapter.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Hints Jannah Is Lando's Daughter

Naomi Ackie as Jannah and Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian in Star Wars Rise of Skywalker

There's a curious scene at the very end of The Rise of Skywalker, where the Resistance and their allies are jubilantly celebrating victory against Palpatine. With no one else to share her happiness (Finn is already off chasing Rey again), Jannah takes a seat next to the returning could Jannah actually be Lando Calrissian's daughter?

Coming at the end of The Rise of Skywalker, there's no solid confirmation either way, but there is evidence to this theory. Firstly, Jannah claims to have been stolen by the First Order as a child. She has no memories of her youth and, as with Rey, her parents could be anyone, though reiterating this in the finale implies she's no regular orphan. Additionally, there's no other reason to link Lando and Jannah during the Resistance's celebrations. There are many more relevant characters for Lando to share the screen with and Jannah was a minor enough figure not to need a wrapping-up moment at all, but the immediate connection between these two disparate characters feels deliberate and significant. The fact that rumors claiming Jannah could be Lando's daughter began immediately after the character was revealed back in April only adds fuel to the fire.

Lando Being Jannah's Daughter Doesn't Need To Happen

Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian in Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker

It could be argued that if Lando really did have a daughter stolen away by the First Order, he'd be considerably less buoyed and jovial than Billy Dee Williams plays him in The Rise of Skywalker. Such a traumatic event would surely leave a scar on Lando that would still be present several decades later. As a swashbuckling lover of the high life and a frequent traveler, however, it wouldn't be unreasonable to suggest that Lando might have conceived children without knowing. Given the complications and questions this father-daughter dynamic would create, the meaning behind this scene is perhaps best left open to interpretation.
