Summary

  • Cosplayers recreate intense lightsaber duels between Sabine Wren and Shin Hati from Ahsoka, showcasing accurate costumes and poses.
  • Sabine and Shin have distinct fighting styles; Shin's is wild and energetic.
  • It will be interesting to see how Shin's fighting style progresses without her master in Ahsoka season 2.

Two cosplayers inspired by Sabine Wren and Shin Hati were destined to have an all-consuming rivalry, fighting not only to prove their worth as apprentices but to achieve their own goals, as well. While Shin was driven by a need for her masters’ approval, Sabine was driven by a need to find her long-lost friend, and the two characters clashed at every turn, giving the series a chance to showcase several intense and nail-biting lightsaber duels.

Cosplayers gray (@darthseamstress) and Soleil (@xonedarkflamex) recreated Sabine and Shin’s rivalry with fantastically accurate and vibrant costumes and some fun lightsaber poses at MegaCon Orlando, including the moment Shin managed to hit Sabine in the abdomen from Ahsoka’s first episode, “Part One: Master and Apprentice.”

It’s no wonder these cosplayers decided to recreate Sabine and Shin’s rivalry – there’s a lot of potential to explore with these characters, especially now that Ahsoka season 2 has been confirmed.

Sabine Wren And Shin Hati Have Completely Different Fighting Styles

Sabine and Shin engage in a lightsaber fight in Ahsoka episode 1

One of the things that was most apparent during Sabine and Shin’s lightsaber duels was the difference in their fighting styles. During their first duel, this was mostly due to Sabine’s lack of training. She hadn’t been with her master, Ahsoka Tano, for years, and this was reflected in her slow reactions and uneven movements. Shin’s fighting style, however, was clear from the start – Shin lets her anger and arrogance guide her. Her strikes are wild and energetic, focused on power instead of precision.

This allowed Shin to easily get the upper hand against Sabine during their first duel on Lothal, but as Sabine started training more with Ahsoka, it became easier for her to block those uninhibited strikes. This contrast between these two characters is interesting, especially when taking into that their masters, Ahsoka and Baylan Skoll, were both taught by the Jedi. Baylan’s precise strikes do not seem to have influenced Shin’s style, however, and it will be interesting to see how she progresses on her own without her master in Ahsoka season 2.
