Star Wars Celebration 2025 now underway in Japan, ScreenRant is in attendance to get all the exciting news from that very famous galaxy far, far away.

Speaking at the Lucasfilm Animation at Star Wars Celebration 2025, Ahsoka showrunner Dave Filoni confirmed that production of season 2 will begin shortly, and Carrie Beck, Lucasfilm's vice president of animation and live-action development, is currently in the UK preparing for filming to begin. This latest announcement follows on the heels of Sabine Wren star Natasha Liu Bordizzo previously hinting at production being scheduled for sometime in summer 2025.

What This News Means For Ahsoka Season 2

There Is Still No Concrete Release Date

Filoni's confirmation that preparation for filming on Ahsoka season 2 will likely come as good news for fans eager to learn how the show’s titular heroine will continue her fight against Grand iral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen). However, the show’s imminent return will also be somewhat bittersweet for audiences, with the tragic ing of season 1 star Ray Stevenson leaving the role of former Jedi Baylan Skoll set to be played by Game of Thrones alum Rory McCann.

Given her importance to the Rebellion's creation and her role after the Empire's fall, where was Ahsoka Tano during Star Wars' Original Trilogy?

While this latest revelation still does not supply fans with a concrete date for Ahsoka season 2’s return, given the timeframe between season 1’s six-month shoot and its eventual release, it may be reasonable to expect the show’s second season to arrive sometime late in 2026. This timeline would also ensure its potential release would not directly conflict with The Mandalorian & Grogu's own May 22, 2026 release date.

Our Take On Ahsoka’s Season 2 Return

Filoni Needs To Set The Stage For His Own Climactic Movie

With the Star Wars franchise increasingly looking to expand beyond the bounds of established periods, there are still a great many questions that surround the period between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. Given the galaxy-shaking implications of Grand iral Thrawn’s return in the Ahsoka season 1 finale, exactly how Filoni will weave his tale into what audiences already know about the eventual rise of the First Order remains to be seen.

However, among the plethora of new Star Wars material that has been released in recent years, Filoni has consistently proven himself a deft hand at working new stories into the franchise’s existing lore. With Ashoka season 2 also expected to reveal much about the role of the mysterious Mortis gods, it is likely that Filoni will be setting the stage for what will eventually become a climactic culmination that ties all the other post-Return of the Jedi stories together. As such, Ahsoka season 2 may prove to be the most important step toward Filoni's own era-ending movie.
