The Rebellion's base on Yavin 4 was utterly perfect for their organization for several reasons. For starters, it was completely remote, allowing the Alliance to hide easily within its depths. It also already had its Massassi Temples constructed, which were conveniently large enough to be converted into hangars for the Alliance's fleet. There seemed to be no shortage of benefits to creating a rebel base on this planet, making it nothing short of the perfect option for them. What remains a mystery, however, is how they found this world - and Andor season 2 will likely reveal the answer.
How Did The Rebel Alliance Find Yavin 4?
This Backstory Is Never Explained
When the Rebel Alliance's base on Yavin 4 is first shown in Star Wars, there is, of course, no background on how exactly they discovered it - because it wasn't relevant at the moment. As Star Wars lore has developed over time, however, this mystery has remained. The base is seen in Star Wars Rebels, the animated TV show that has covered other aspects of the Rebel Alliance's origins, but even that story doesn't explain how Yavin 4 was discovered by those within the Alliance. Andor season 2, conveniently, already has the perfect way of doing this.

Luthen Rael's Collection Proves His Knack For History
There's no one more suitable to find a planet like this than Luthen Rael himself. The rebel's alter ego is that of a collector on Coruscant, which conceals his true beliefs and motivations - as glimpsed throughout Andor season 1. Despite this being a ploy, Luthen's knowledge is still very real. He knows a lot about the history of the galaxy, especially the artifacts that populate his gallery. He still has to collect to put on his show, after all, and one specific item in his collection seems to suggest that Yavin 4 was definitely on his radar: a Sith holocron.

Yavin 4's history reveals that it was once ruled by Sith Lords, the very same ones who had ordered the construction of the Massassi Temples. This history would certainly be known by someone like Luthen, who would then be able to find the planet and secure it as a holdout for the Rebel Alliance. Luthen's knowledge would thus serve yet another key purpose for the Rebel Alliance, bringing elements of his character full-circle. Given the hints Andor season 2 has already provided about fleshing out Yavin 4's backstory, this seems to be the likeliest possibility.
