After 47 Years, I Think Star Wars Is Finally Paying Off One Of A New Hope's Most Intriguing Lines

New footage from first look at Andor season 2.

The teaser includes shots of a major Imperial attack on citizens, who are crying out for someone to help them; it looks as though Cassian Andor himself is on the ground during this incident. Many fans are theorizing this is an event called the Ghorman Massacre, a key moment in Mon Mothma's own journey to become a rebel.

For Mon Mothma, the Ghorman Massacre was an atrocity too far. She moved from careful plotting to open rebellion, fleeing Coruscant before she was arrested or assassinated.

What The Ghorman Massacre Means For Star Wars

A key rebel leader, Mon Mothma was already a well-respected senator when Palpatine rose to power. Following advice from Pé Amidala herself, she chose to operate within the political structures of the Empire in an attempt to undermine Palpatine. As Andor season 1 revealed, in secret she was financing many acts of outright rebellion. But the Ghorman Massacre changed everything for Mon; two years before the Battle of Yavin, Tarkin ordered the slaughter of peaceful protestors on Ghorman.

We've only ever heard about the Ghorman Massacre until now, and the prospect of actually seeing it in Andor season 2 is both chilling and thrilling. It's entirely possible Cassian was Mon's at Ghorman, who brought evidence of Imperial atrocities to her. If so, he could even be the one who extracted Mon from Coruscant.

Our Take On Andor Season 2

Andor is essentially a story about how rebellions are born. Given that's the case, and given Genevieve O'Reilly's character is so prominent, it's always seemed likely Andor season 2 would head to Ghorman. The interesting question is whether Andor will have a Tarkin cameo, created using the same VFX technology as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. That may raise some awkward and uncomfortable ethical questions, but it would also make sense.

Star Wars Brings Back The Anthology Movie Tagline, Reinforcing Massive Rogue One Connection

The Star Wars universe is officially bringing back its anthology movie tagline, reinforcing a massive connection to the Rogue One movie.

That said, it's frankly not essential. Cassian seems to be operating on the ground level, caught up in the horror of the massacre, and as such he'll likely never cross paths with the officers in charge. Andor could easily show the true horror of the Empire simply ny having Cassian experience this without knowing who gave the order.
