The Rogue One's renowned rebel spy, Andor takes place in period between Revenge of the Sith and Rogue One, with the Rebel Alliance striking back against an established Empire. Though only Diego Luna's character and his wonderfully dour companion K-2SO are confirmed to return at present, this corner of the Star Wars timeline offers some fascinating and familiar avenues for Andor to explore.
Rian Johnson's divisive The Last Jedi finds the Resistance on the backfoot, being pursued and picked off by the First Order. Thanks to the brave (and arguably canon-breaking) efforts of iral Holdo, the last remaining group of heroes are able to land on Crait and make a final stand against Kylo Ren, newly crowned as the Supreme Leader. With cute animals and a surface saltier than The Last Jedi's social media backlash, Crait was a stunningly realized planet that also harbored a disused base of the Rebel Alliance. Unseen in live-action prior to The Last Jedi, the base's story is partially filled in by books and comics, which tell of Bail Organa's early Rebellion, and Leia's subsequent visit there while scouting potential locations for a new Rebel base before The Empire Strikes Back.
Crait has been used sparingly in Star Wars canon, which is surprising given the planet's important role in the development of the Rebel Alliance. Fortunately, Andor is the perfect series to explore Crait in further detail. The Disney+ show will follow Cassian in his capacity as an intelligence officer for the Rebellion, which naturally means operating in clandestine circles with secret allies. Since Crait was an old Rebel outpost long since abandoned, the planet would be well-suited for conducting spy operations - the home comforts of a base, but with the added bonus of obscurity. Cassian could meet s in Crait's deep mining shafts, or he could even set up a semi-permanent home there to act as a HQ throughout Andor season 1.
Heading back to Crait allows Andor to expand upon plot threads and details already present in the Star Wars tapestry. The tame, fox-like vulptices lent a hand to the Resistance in The Last Jedi - perhaps Cassian Andor learns how to utilize their skills for his own purposes, or exploit the creatures' labyrinthine tunnels for smuggling. Since Crait played host to Bail Organa during the Rebel Alliance's early days, Cassian might find remnants of those times - data, machinery, even messages from Organa himself. Star Wars fans could finally also witness what a live-action ski speeder chase looks like when the vehicles are in top condition. Most interestingly, however, Andor could explain in more detail why the Crait base was first abandoned. According to the official Star Wars databank, the decision was taken when "a change in Imperial patrols endangered it." Instead of simply moving due to the Empire's new patrol route, Andor could reveal a more high-stakes tale behind the original fleeing of Crait.
Star Wars has a long history of revisiting planets to flesh out their backstory. The mythology behind locales such as Tatooine, Alderaan, and Mustafar has been expanded to great effect after each planet debuted on the big screen (all too briefly in Alderaan's case) and the deeper the history goes, the richer the Star Wars world becomes. Given how ideally suited the planet is to Cassian Andor's line of work, Andor could do exactly that for Crait, improving the setting of The Last Jedi's climactic battle.
